FILMmedia is proud to announce Duane Whitaker's newly restored 16mm feature film TOGETHER AND ALONE is now available free to Amazon PRIME members.
With its quirky characters, authentic dialog and gritty settings, TOGETHER AND ALONE is a snapshot of '90s Los Angeles.
Synopsis:
Noted writer-actor Duane Whitaker steps into the director s chair with this darkly comic 1998 black-and-white ensemble gem about a night in the life of Hollywood hopefuls and has-beens. Stories intertwine as the characters slog their way through dubious acting classes, bomb at stand-up and obsess over their s*x lives at the local coffee shop. But don t mistake this for THE PLAYER, this motley crew is much further down the food chain. Also starring Joe Estevez, Thomas Draper, Daniel Roebuck, Joe Unger, John Bishop, Casey Siemaszko, Tim Thomerson and Mariah O'Brien.
"Joe Unger gives the performance of a lifetime in this portrait of Los Angeles at night" --American Cinematheque
A darkly comic look at a night in the life of Hollywood hopefuls and has-beens as they slog their way through tedious acting classes, bomb at stand-up and reminisce over past successes at the local coffee shop.

Film Media announced today it has completed restoration on the 1997 Indie Drama, Where the Air is Cool and Dark. A visually sumptuous and critically acclaimed account of drug addiction and recovery set in the 1990s Pacific Northwest, Where the Air is Cool and Dark, directed and produced by Brion Rockwell at the tail end of the 1990s Indie Film Boom – which carried films like Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho to theaters across the nation and forever branded Portland and Seattle as meccas of a growing nationwide drug culture - was praised by the Anchorage Daily News at its release as portraying a “dark, introspective world of desperation and drug-induced escapism.” With the United States op**te epidemic reaching unprecedented heights, Where the Air is Cool and Dark remains as relevant in 2017, if not more so, than at its initial release.

Film Movement continues its commitment to issuing restored Blu-rays of the films of Joseph Sarno, who has often been called the Ingmar Bergman of exploitation films. That’s not a joke, because the Swedish-American Sarno admired Bergman and even made films in Sweden, and his scripts emphasize intense emotional motivations while his camera boxes his characters into claustrophobic compositions.

About Joseph W. Sarno – an American film director and screenwriter, Joe Sarno emerged from the New York exploitation film scene of the 1950s and 1960s and wrote / directed approximately 75 feature films including the internationally renowned Sin in the Suburbs and Inga. Often referred to as “the Ingmar Bergman of 42nd street”, the last 12 years of Joe’s life heralded a new appreciation for his body of nuanced and highly stylized erotic dramas, culminating in a series of screenings and awards at the Lake Placid Film Festival, the British Film Institute, the Turin Film Festival and the Warhol Museum among others.
