After months of speculation, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced that he will be running for president in 2024.

DeSantis officially filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to launch his 2024 presidential campaign before an online conversation with Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

In 2022, the Buffalo Bills announced a deal with the state of New York to build a brand new $1.4 billion stadium in Erie County. The kicker: the project comes at massive expense to taxpayers, who are on the hook for $850 million of the bill. The announcement renewed debate over a frequent frustration: why are cities and states -- meaning the people that live there -- fronting huge sums of money to further enrich sports owners?

In the latest episode of Regressives, sits down with sports economist Victor Matheson to discuss the history of stadium financing, the leverage that sports teams have over lawmakers, and why this trend may be here to stay.

Political violence is on the rise in America. In 2021 alone, there were over 9,600 threats against members of Congress and over 4,200 against federal judges. In 2020, the most recent data available, the FBI recorded 8,263 hate crimes, the highest number since 9/11. Two years after Jan. 6, polarization and extremism still hinder our country's ability to move forward as one. So long as our political violence goes unchecked, our democracy remains at risk. Each of us can help stem political violence by engaging in good faith dialogue with one another, understanding how radicalization comes about, and taking action to bridge our nation's divides.

New polling from Populace shows that individuals are censoring themselves so that they appear to have the "right” opinion.

"In recent years, polls have consistently found that most Americans, across all demographics, feel they cannot share their honest opinions in public for fear of offending others or incurring retribution. This trend is concerning because of the threat that it poses to individual freedoms, community flourishing, and democratic self-government.
