Mixing:
When you have a song with elements that don't blend well it sounds a little abrasive, we fix this first by adjusting the volume, then we listen to the frequencies and tone of each individual track to add equalization this ensures that everything feels more balanced. After the initial volume and equalization steps we consider the space of the recording, how much space is needed if any, th
is is adjusted in many ways from changing the room you're recording in to adjusting the reverb on the track. When we are done adding space into the mix we make some final tweaks to get your song ready for mastering. Mastering:
Ideally this is when the song is already mixed to its final stage, we may make a couple changes here and there but nothing too drastic. Light equalization and volume management is what we're addressing during the mastering process. Songs need to be at different levels of volume depending on what platform they will be listened to on, for example Spotify and CDs won't be mastered with the same target loudness. We tailor the song to your specific platform and it's good to go!
