Memorial Day...

Thank you for doing the things you did not have to do in love for your country and fellow people. A soldier's service is a selfless act that many are terrified to do. It is courage that few can muster and we at Talking with God are thankful for the people who serve to protect what we love.

Happy Mother's Day!



An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. Faith, Hope and Love.

Powerful components of our faith. Love is the greatest because it is what God has for you!

Creation, through the separation, through the Exodus, all the way to today. Everything God has done, has been from love.

The love that God provides is the spark that gives you the knowledge that there is hope to be in a relationship in Him. It requires your faith in Him to be fulfilled.

Consider this was the sight that follower's of Jesus saw on Saturday. A closed tomb, one with a heavy stone that takes many men to move. Once in place, it's never intended to be moved again.

This man, the one called the Christ who had died next to a pair of thieves lay in that tomb. He promised he would return again...but would he?

We are lucky, we know that he did return. For the people living in that moment it was a time of great fear and doubt. Even his closest, his chosen had denied him and fled. They had lived the miracles, saw the storm calm and the child brought back from the dead.

They had every reason to not just believe that Jesus was the son of God. They saw it! Yet, their faith eroded.

We have the benefit of knowing that this tomb DID get emptied. We have the benefit of knowing that Jesus IS the Christ. We have the benefit of knowing that the promises God made, were fulfilled!

We have been given more than just the salvation that the death of Christ provided. We have the history, the facts and the assurance to be the greatest theologians that the world has ever seen.

A little over two thousand years ago on this very night God is completing his promise, preparing the way for us to be the chosen to reach the lost. It's a small price to pay, when so much has already been given.

It is Good Friday friends! Similar to Maundy Thursday, I thought it would be good to discuss why we call today, a good day.

It seems like a bad idea to call today, such an important day, as 'good' when a little over 2000 years ago Jesus was arrested and being beaten on this day. He was tried unjustly and a known murderer was let go in his stead. Ultimately he was crucified and left to hang, they tried to shame him by spitting on him and gambling over his garments.

It seems difficult to try and justly claim that today, is a GOOD day.

The idea of Good in the use of Good Friday has some old etymological ties to pious or holy but I'd rather focus on God's intention of that day.

Good Friday is the day where hope is handed to humanity at the greatest cost ever paid. Christ allowed himself to be hung on a cross and killed as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity. He went willingly, a perfect lamb to slaughter.

To understand the significance of that, we have Maundy Thursday, a chance for us to reflect and see that our condition, the human condition bound in sin, enslaves us. It's why we feel 'guilty' after we do things.

It's why we feel elated when we act as Christ would have. To be saved and to live life as Christ is to experience emotional, spiritual, and physical freedom that the human condition simply cannot provide.

That my friends is why TODAY is a GOOD day. We are given the chance to start anew, the cost was terribly overpaid but it was paid in full, for everyone. No just the 'good' people but those we see as the 'worst'

It's the perfect day to ask Christ to welcome you in to his kingdom. He has paid your entry fee, it's an invitation that costs you zero dollars but has the chance to impact your life in ways that will blow your mind.

It is a good day.

It is Maundy Thursday friends. A time of reflection and focus. Christ was having his final Passover meal with his disciples.

We celebrate Maundy Thursday, it was when Christ gave a very important command to the disciples. They had just finished the Last Supper and he was washing their feet when he said;

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35).

Take the time tonight and reflect on this through the rest of the weekend. Who we are, how we love is a representation of our Lord. This command elevated love in such a way because of what Christ was doing for mankind.

Sin is not attractive to God, but yet Jesus loved us to the end (John 13:1)

Just something to think about.

The kids were asked to draw a Christian a few weeks ago at church. Both plates are me ♥

Jury is still out on that huge 'fro rendition of me, but I love that they love me and see me in that manner.

Fact is, I am not perfect by a long shot but I am blessed to be able to show them my faults and how they can be better where I fail.

We keep it honest in our house for this very reason. We are all broken and imperfect, to pretend otherwise is an injustice to the grace we are given.
