When the storm rages and the winds howl, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, lost in the chaos. But when the skies finally clear, we see it. The quiet miracle. God was never distant; He was moving through every drop, every gust, sending us help in unexpected forms. Hands reaching out, hearts drawing near, reminding us that His provision doesn’t always look like lightning from heaven, it often looks like the compassion of others.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you…
Isaiah 43:2

In every tragedy, God’s love threads through the people He places in our path, their acts of grace a reflection of His own. After the storm, don’t just see the help, become it. Seek out those still weathering their own storms, and be the hands He uses to restore hope.

YOUR JOB:
Look for someone in need this week, and be the vessel of God’s provision in their life. Reach out, lift them up, and let them see the Son through you.

The Only Limit to Your Next Step is Your First One

Just as the fire service has evolved and improved, so have our tools. On a recent call, our firefighters implemented drones equipped with thermal imaging to assist in a search. These tools bring new perspectives and insights into our service, yet they also bring new challenges. We’re only as good as our training, not our tools!

Without training, every tool is just decor on our trucks. We can have the latest saws, hand tools, and pump panels, but if their first use is on scene rather than the training ground, inefficiency is inevitable.

The moral of this story: TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN.

Fail in a safe environment, find out how and why it works or doesn’t. Train on the simple things: ropes, saws, cribbing, med bag layout. Your next step forward depends on the strength of your first.

In a world that forgets, they’re the unsung stars, guardians of peace, behind patrol cars. As we celebrate, let’s not overlook, the ones who give, with every look.

Here’s to the heroes, far from their kin, on this Christmas night, let gratitude begin. For the silent saviors, we may never see, we thank you for your silent plea.

I was asleep on the couch and my assistant chief walks in and yells

“Bird! You’re not in Cleveland? They have massive fire going.”

Amidst the tragedy that occurred, I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to help document the dedication and drive White County Public Safety and my friends with LACI put in this LONG night into the morning.

Also, shout out to chiefs that push you to go further in vs. drive you out!
