Bozeman has some of the best ice climbing in the Lower 48, from easy top-rope crags in Hyalite to grueling alpine routes in the Beartooths. Many folks arrive in this town having never even considered ascending a frozen waterfall using sharp metal spikes, only to find themselves fully hooked on the sport just a few years later. Here's everything you need to know to get started: https://www.bluelightguide.com/ice-ice-baby/

Urban forest have a place in Bozeman and should not be bulldozed down. With the rapid development of apartment complexes trees are getting cut down left and right. Old growth trees just make a town feel so much better. The answer is not to "just plan new ones."

Montana State Park Foundation is buying 30 acres to donate to Missouri Headwaters State Park. They have been working with the Montana Outdoor Legacy Fund and the Montana Fish and Wildlife Conservation Trust. With all that the deal is still not done. They need approval from the State of Montana, and the public is needed. The next two upcoming public comment periods can determine the fate of this project. Check out for more info.

Starting today, closures on Sourdough and Leverich Canyon trails will go into effect in order to continue the Bozeman Municipal Watershed Project. Trails will re-open for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend (Thursday-Sunday) and then closures will continue until construction is completed.
“This helicopter work is an important component of the broader BMW project” said Bozeman District Ranger Corey Lewellen. “Thinning of trees adjacent to the City of Bozeman’s water intake structure on Bozeman Creek will aid in protecting this critical infrastructure in the event of a wildfire in the watershed and protect the City of Bozeman’s drinking water. We fully recognize this is an inconvenience to the public and that there will be temporary impacts to users. We understand these trails are highly recreated in the wintertime when groomed for skiing, however this management work is critical in helping meet the goals and objectives of the project and to protect the municipal watershed for City of Bozeman residents. We are working with our partner, Bridger Ski Foundation, to minimize the impacts as much as possible.”
