John Lee Summey, 73, of Denton, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. and following the service on Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Jimmy Barbour officiating. Burial will be private in Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Trinity.

Born in Randolph County, NC, on November 9, 1950, John was the son of the late Robert and Lucille Crotts Summey. Veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristen Kidd.

Surviving are his daughter, Laura Barbour (James) of Denton; brother, Robert "Bobby" Summey (Faye) of Asheboro; granddaughters, Kayla Kidd of Denton, Angel Barbour (Cordell Graham) of Lexington; great grandchildren, Noah Graham, Shawn Graham; nieces, Crystal Richardson (Kevin) of Asheboro, Donna Reynolds of Sylva; and aunt, Rosa Lee Garren of Asheboro.

Mr. Swaim's mother is Ruth Briles Swaim

Robert “Bobby” Toland Swaim, Jr., 83, of Thomasville passed, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Hospice Home at High Point.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Springfield Friends Meeting in High Point with Rev. Joshua Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bobby was born March 14, 1941 to the late Robert Toland Swaim, Sr. and Ruth Briles Swaim in Davidson County.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter, Angie Swaim.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Vivian Younts Swaim of the home; his daughter, Mitzi Marlowe of Thomasville; a grandson, Zac Rogers of Thomasville; a brother, George Perry “Jeep” Swaim of Lexington; great-granddaughter, Isla Rogers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Woody and Phyllis Younts of Asheboro, Wanda and Bobby Hill of Thomasville; extended family and friends.

Patricia Ellen (O’Riley) Briles, 93, of Maryville, formerly of Creston, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Maryville Living Center.

The parish and family rosary will be at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, July 12, 2024, the visitation will continue until 7:00 p.m., at St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.

Born on May 6, 1931, on a farm near Skidmore, Missouri.

In 1950, she was united in marriage to Lee Bantz. They later divorced. In 1980, she married Harvey Briles They both preceded her in death. Also preceded in death by her parents, Francis P. O’Riley, Margaret (Linville) O’Riley, infant son, Michael Joseph Bantz, her siblings, Robert O’Riley, Phillip O’Riley, Mary Growney, Fred O’Riley, Bill O’Riley, Paul O’Riley, her great-grandson, Trevor Lang, step-grandson, and Shawn Manrose.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (John) Schulte, Maryville, John Bantz, Clarinda, Iowa, Sandy (Jack, now deceased) Manrose, Kathy (Jerry) Balius, Debbie (Kevin) Glick, Creston, Iowa, Jeff (Brenda) Briles, Perry, Iowa, sister, Margaret Merrigan, and sister-in-law, Margie O’Riley, grandchildren, Mike (Leisa) Schulte, Alan (Lesley) Schulte, Jennifer (Travis) Lang, Christi (Sylvester) Tapia, Scott (Natalie) Bantz, great grandchildren, Kade Owens, Kylee Lang, Ava Lang, Ella Schulte, Max Schulte, Ellie Bantz, Niko and Stella Tapia, two step grandchildren, Samantha (John) Mires Baker, Brittany (Pat) Emery, and many nieces, nephews.

Billy Howard Sheffield, passed on June 1, 2024, in Trinity County, Texas, at the age of 75.

A celebration of Billy's life will be held on June 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM at River of Life Church in Trinity, TX. Following the service, there will be a gathering at the 19th Hole at Westwood Shores Clubhouse.

Born on August 16, 1948, in Harris, Texas, the late J.F. Sheffield and Wanda Frances Briles. He married to Shirley Ann White on January 13, 1973. Preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Richard Sheffield, Helen Stutes, Charles Sheffield, and Louise Winningham; and his sisters-in-law, Nell White and Elizabeth White.

Surviving his son, Kevin Dwane Sheffield, and his wife Leslie, as well as his adored grandchildren, Rylee Sheffield and Jaxton Sheffield. Also survived by his sister, Susie Quinn, by his sisters-in-law, Sandy Mikeska, Caryl Grappe and her husband James, and Linda Menzies, and his brothers-in-law, Jim White, Woody White and his wife Betsy, and Robert Martin. Richard “Dick” Polodna passed away May 21, 2024 at his home of natural causes.

There will be no formal arrangements at this time.

He was born November 12, 1945 to Thomas and Dot (Briles) Polodna in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Veteran of US Marines. He married Susan Lang in June of 1970 and they later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Jennifer Rae.

He is survived by his children Aeron (Patrick Rebholz) Polodna and Wade (Desiree) Polodna.

His mother, Dot Briles, is the daughter of William Henry & Ida Gouty Briles

Hazel Delores Byerley, 90, of Corydon, died Saturday, May 25, 2024, at her home near Corydon.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Norman Lasley and Pastor Larry Hensley will officiate. Burial will be in Potato Run Cemetery near Corydon.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born September 22, 1933, in Corydon, to the late Henry M. and Augusta G. Kinney Briles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Joseph Byerley; her daughter, Sandra E. Tisdel; her brother, Vernon Briles; her sisters, Arlene Knowles and Gracie Dodge; and her son in law, Kenneth B. Cox.

Survivors include her sons, Robert J. Byerley (Marla) of New Albany, Indiana and Richard J. Byerley (Jill) of Georgetown, Indiana; her daughter, Deborah M. Cox of Corydon; her grandchildren, Angela Jones (Jennifer Whitehouse), Michael Patrick Jones, Megan Byerley, Sandy Music (Larry), Heather Tisdel, and Misty Hawkins (Stephen); and many loving great and great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Tilda “Tina” Lee Briles Hulon, 73, a resident of Trinity, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

A gathering of friends will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons funeral home in Thomasville. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Westfield Baptist Church in Trinity with Pastor Garry Reeder officiating.

She was born on April 23, 1951 in Davidson County to her parents, the late Dorothy Lee Young and Stanton Harry Briles. On February 14, 1987 she married Delton Eugene Hulon who preceded her in death on April 4, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Walter Eugene Briles.

Surviving is her two daughters, Karen Morgan and husband Chad of Trinity, Susan Leonard of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Bill Briles of Lake Charles, LA and Stanton “June Bug” Briles, Jr. of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Caitlin Tiller (Chris) of Trinity, Brittany Grubb (Jeremy) of Lexington, Aaron Tiller (Celeste) of Greensboro, Hayley Wilkins (Brandon) of Lexington, and CJ Morgan (Kaylan) of Thomasville; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mrs. Janice Leigh Hughes Lanier, 78, a resident of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the New Heights Baptist Church in Trinity with Rev. Roger Porter officiating. The family will greet friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at JC Green & Sons funeral home in Thomasville. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville.

She was born on December 16, 1945 in Davidson County to the late Eva Mae Hopkins Hughes and Harvey Lee Hughes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Horace Lanier, Sr; one son, Danny Ray Lanier, Sr; grandson, Joshua Wayne Lanier; and five siblings, Joe, Harold, Leslie, Donna “Sissy” and Donald “Bo”.

Frank Leonard Briles, 87, of Keithsburg, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Brookstone of Aledo.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Keithsburg, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Burial is in Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg, IL.

Frank was born on September 27, 1936, in Keithsburg, IL, the son of Johnny and Alwilda Obenour Briles. Frank married Sonya Thurman and together had two sons. He later married Vivian King and had two daughters. He would later marry Virigina Shoemaker and had one son and two stepsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Frank Jr.; stepson, Mike McGehee; and three sisters: Frances Abbadusky, Phyllis Lucian, and Emma Margaret Ward.

Survivors include his children: Richie Briles, Kelly (Rick) Andress, Moscow Mills, MO, Becky (Tom) Hisey, Taylor Ridge, IL, and Scott (Nancy) Briles, Muscatine, IA; one stepchild, Tim (Wendy) McGehee, Keithsburg, IL; six grandchildren: Tom, Kris, Andrea, Holly, Krista, and Zach; one step-grandchild, Whitney; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Briles.

Mrs. Clark was born in the Jackson Creek Community of Randolph County on April 20,1932 to Arthur and Ocia Small McDowell.

Gary was born on September 2, 1945, in Davidson County to the late Jesse Wayne Kindley and Mary Lee Crouse Kindley. US Army veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Sam Lewis officiating. No formal visitation will be held.

She was born on December 9, 1942 in Davidson County, NC to Clyde Lester Hughes and Sadie Elizabeth Kinley Hughes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dwight Sluder; and 3 brothers, Donald Lester Hughes, Frankie Edward Hughes, and GB Hughes.

Born July 2, 1940, in Randolph Co., Mrs. Staley was the daughter of the late Charles and Maggie Merritt Skeen.

Earlene Sexton Way, age 97, of Greensboro passed away on April 4, 2024 at Verra Springs at Heritage Greens.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road in Asheboro with Scott Reavis officiating.

Mrs. Way was born in Davidson County on February 20, 1927 to William and Gnettie Kindley Sexton. In addition to her parents, Earlene was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Newman Way, and her eight siblings, Alton Sexton, Wesley Sexton, Wayne Sexton, Hobert Sexton, Joel Sexton, Willena Russell, Paula Durham, and Sula Belle Sexton.

Kenneth was born in Randolph County on April 1, 1960, son of Lloyd Kenneth Robbins and Nancy Freeman Robbins. Robbins was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Kenneth Robbins and his wife, Tonja Robbins.

Aiko Briles, 97, of Eagle Point, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at her residence. She was married to the late Owen Emmit Briles Jr. who passed in 2003. Her son, Martin L. Briles passed in 2022. There is no information regarding services at this time. Conger-Morris Funeral Home is servicing the Briles Family.

Everett "Buck" Lee Small, 89, of Asheboro, died Thursday, March 21, 2024, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Private services are being held.

Buck was born on November 13, 1934, in Randolph County, the son of the late Ream Small and Eunice Pierce Small. U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his brothers, Lindsay Small, Clay Small, Lloyd Small, Hoyle Small; sisters, Ocia McDowell, Kate Skeen, Kathleen Yow, Esther Davidson, Annie Mae Robbins, and Marie Freeman.

Surviving are his wife, Evelean Small of the home; daughter, Karen Holland and husband Dale of Charleston, SC; sisters, Allene Gallimore of Lexington; grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Holland, and James Ross Holland and wife Madison.

Elma Louise Garner Cagle, 80, of New Hope Rd., Denton, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at her residence.

Memorial Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Ron Chaney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

Born in Davidson County on February 5, 1944, she was the daughter of Melvin and Rona Pearce Garner. She was preceded in death by a sister, Adrena Gallimore. She was a member at Bethel Baptist Church and formerly at West Stanly Baptist Church in Albemarle.

Mrs. Cagle is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Neal Cagle of the home; 2 sons, Neal Reid Cagle (Mary) of Denton and Brent Wade Cagle (Donna) of Denton; brother, Randall Garner (Darnell) of Denton; sister, Carolyn Cagle of Denton; 2 grandchildren, Stephen and Kevin Cagle; 5 step-grandchildren, Hannah, Tabitha, Rachel, Moriyh, and Isayh Clark.

Mr. Van “Boogie” Weldon Hicks, Sr. 83, of Lexington, died at Atrium Health High Point Hospital on Monday, March, 18, 2024.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Jason Craver officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, 8114 Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27292.

He was born on June 24, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Carl Lee Hicks and Viola Kindley Hicks. In addition to his parents, Boogie is preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Summey, Ruby Gallimore, Crissy Jane Smith; five brothers, T.J. Hicks, L.C. Hicks, Roland Hicks, Richard Hicks, Hoyt Hicks; a great-grandson, Kaleb Dill.

Surviving are his life partner, Faye Porter of Germanton; his son, Van Weldon Hicks, Jr. and wife, Kelly of Thomasville; four daughters, Virginia Tate and husband Pete of Thomasville, Carey Gregory and husband Todd of Lexington, Jana Hicks of Lexington, Aimee Farlow and wife Sharon of Archdale; three brothers, Hollis Hicks and wife, Elaine of Lexington, David Hicks and wife Janet of Lexington, Dallas Hicks of Thomasville; two sisters, Julia Ruth Tharp of Belews Creek, Donese Trotter and husband, Jimmy of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Cisneros, Taylor Lynch, Dakota Tate, Jake Thomas, Savannah Hicks, Tyler Hicks, MaryKatherine Roberts, Dalton Hicks; ten great-grandchildren, Korbin Dill, Addison Cisneros, Elijah Cisneros, Marley Tate, Nadia Logan, Nola Logan, Naomi Logan, Emma Hicks, Grayson Henderson, Salem Henderson; an expected great-great grandson, Oliver Borowski; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lindsay Odell Lambeth, 91, of Asheboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Darrell Rabon, Rev. Bryan Rush, Rev. Jeff Garner, Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born on February 8, 1933, in Davidson County, NC, Odell was the son of the late Lindsay and Virdie Hughes Lambeth.
In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beasley Lambeth; daughter, Patricia Lambeth; sons, Bobby Lambeth, Ronnie Lambeth; sisters, Verlie Presnell, Vera Cunningham, Virgie Hughes, Ruby Lambeth, Alene Lambeth; brothers, Olan Lambeth and Oliver Lambeth.

Surviving are daughters, Dewanda Cron (George) of Asheboro, Ronda Rush (Bryan) of Asheboro; son, Joe Don Lambeth (Alesia) of Lexington; sister, Vida Allred (Charles) of Asheboro; brother, Oscar Lambeth (Shelby) of Lexington; brother-in-law, Jim Cunningham of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
