I have an important announcement about the future of the Stow and Bolton Independent. I suppose the announcement is more about *my* future and hopefully less about the paper itself. After 17 years of being in business, I have decided that, at this point in my life, my body is telling me I need to make some changes that will be healthier and less stressful for me. And the only way to get there is by letting go of the business I've loved (and sometimes not so much...) for so long. This has never been just a "job" to me.
I am looking to find someone/a group/entity that is willing to pick up where I'm eventually leaving off so that a print newspaper in some form continues to cover Stow and Bolton. It's important to me that anyone continuing this project have journalistic integrity - the ability to see things from a broad and varied perspective, remain neutral and objective, and not bring any bias into the "newsroom."
I have several ideas that could help move the paper forward into the future, as well. Unfortunately, I'm just not at a point where I have the energy, enthusiasm and extra funds needed to make those things a reality. I am planning to stay around until I am confident there will be an alternative and am willing to help transition anyone into a new era for the paper (or a new paper with similar goals).
This has not been an easy or quick decision. But it's a necessary one for me and, ultimately, I hope it will give the towns a new, energized and updated ongoing source of real news. I will continue to accept subscriptions so that they can pass on to a new/revamped paper when that time comes and hope you will support the paper in the meantime. Your subscriptions are vital to keep the presses rolling!
This will not be something that will happen quickly, but please know, when it does, I will really miss being a part of your lives. Ok, no getting all emotional just yet!
Thank you all for your continued support!
Cyndy

A quick look at the Stow Annual Town Meeting results, thanks to reporting by Ann Needle!

By Ann Needle May 11, 2024         Compared with last year’s day-long Annual Town Meeting (ATM), this year’s affair had everyone out the Center School doors by lunchtime. The May 11 ATM, which determined Town spending for fiscal year 2025, saw less than 150 residents pass all but one of t...

STOW – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Stow Chief of Police Michael Sallese have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a suspicious death that occurred last night at a residence on Great Road.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Stow Police responded to a Great Road residence for a well-being check at the home. Upon arrival police were met at the door by the male resident of the home, Shane Curry, 20. For approximately two hours Curry prohibited the officers from entering the home. when they finally were able to gain access, they located Curry’s girlfriend, identified as Naveah Goddard, 17, who also lived in the home, dead inside. Curry was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Based on the preliminary investigation Curry has been arrested and charged with assault and battery on a household or family member and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and additional charges are possible.

Curry is expected to be arraigned on Monday, April 8 in Concord District Court.
