Emerge from the Monroe News Ruins

Since the Monroe Courier closed down, local news in Monroe appeared to be a dead zone with sporadic coverage from other outlets. The Monroe Sun was created with the goal of providing hyperlocal news coverage of the everyday goings on of our town.

A town that loses its local newspaper is called a “news desert.” I’m Bill Bittar, a longtime journalist who survived a near fatal coffee accident in The Monroe News Ruins. An archeologist and his young assistant found me.

They called an ambulance and a crew from Easton was closest. They loaded me into the ambulance and hooked me up to a an automatic defibrillator ....

They delivered a shock to try to get my heart going again ... but I flatlined.
