My favorite spot is Croton-Harmon, located on the east shore of the Hudson River in northern Westchester County, New York. Croton-Harmon, commonly known as just Croton-on Hudson, is located 33 miles due-north of Grand Central Terminal in New York City, and has long been the terminus of third-rail electric commuter operations...

Located just a half-hour from New York City, Croton-Harmon is home to Metro-North and Amtrak passenger trains, with some CSX freight action.

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is proud to debut the restoration of PCC 1713, "The Terrible Trolley" today! Car 1713 was built in 1949 by St. Louis Car Company. The car originally ran on Pittsburgh Railways’ Charleroi and Washington interurban lines. In 1980 it was painted in the signature black and gold colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team to celebrate their string of Super Bowl championships. The name comes from the team's "Terrible Towel" mascot. Successor Port Authority Transit rebuilt the car in 1989, extending its service life. It was retired in 1998 and purchased by a private owner who moved it to a warehouse in Ohio where it has sat for the last 25 years. The car was acquired in 2023 and was subject to an extensive restoration inside and out. Thanks to a partnership with the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Eamon Foundation, this car has been restored to its former glory celebrating a storied football franchise and its connection to the city and surrounding communities. Look for this car to be in service at the Museum throughout the rest of the season.

The railroad museum in Salamanca, N.Y., is closing permanently, and the volunteers are seeking assistance in relocating the remaining equipment off property.

Most people are aware we have closed and are leaving 170 N. Main Street. We are focused on getting our equipment and artifacts off the property.

This is a call for help. We have a lot of work to get done over the next few days. We are moving the equipment and getting the final move out of the museum buildings. We are going to be building track to move the equipment to the active rails 400 feet away. If you are able, we will be startgibg to work tomorrow (7/17/2025) at 11 AM and will be working everyday until Tuesday (7/22/2025) or we are done, whichever comes first.

For the outside equipment, if you have steel toe boots, we suggest you wear them. We will have jobs from moving small pieces of material, to helping move heavy ties and rails.

On Sunday we will be doing our final move out of the buildings, there are a number of smaller items that need to be moved, and some are even on wheels.

Many hands make light work. Please come help preserve the collection. We are making plans to re-open in a different location. We will discuss that when plans come together.

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, features a robust economy anchored by a mix of industry, agriculture and tourism in the south-central part of the Commonwealth. Norfolk Southern’s Lititz Industrial Track touches activities of all three of these sectors on its scenic 13.6-mile route from Lancaster to Lititz.

The Lititz Industrial Track was originally part of Reading Company’s Reading & Columbia Branch, now operated by Norfolk Southern.

Railpace Newsmagazine

Railpace Newsmagazine was founded by Tom Nemeth, Denis Connell, and Bill Chaplik in 1982 with the idea of presenting Northeastern U.S.-based news along with the finest railroad photography in a high quality publication. Railpace Newsmagazine is sold by many well-stocked hobby shops across the country and is also offered to readers through an annual subscription. In January 2020, Railpace Newsmagazine joined the White River Productions family of quality railroading publications.

Railpace is “The Northeast's Own Rail Newsmagazine,” focusing primarily on prototype railroading from the Northeastern United States, an area which includes all of New England and eastern Canada (Ontario and east); southward through Virginia, and westward through West Virginia and Ohio. We generally don’t publish photos and news from outside this area, unless it is of significant interest to our readers, and directly related to Northeastern railroading. We cover main line freight and passenger railroading, short lines, commuter, transit, tourist and museum operations, and historic preservation through our network of columnists and contributions from our readers.
