✧⁣⁣⁣ “When I got into rap, I always would listen to rappers that broke the rules of rap,” says Kenrick, naming Redman as one of his inspirations.

Before rap, Kenrick grew up playing the saxophone. One of his biggest musical inspirations is Charlie Parker, the renowned 20th century jazz saxophonist and composer.

In regards to “Relax,” Kenrick says “I like to see this music video as a springboard for me now to really speak my pain and really get my message out to the people about the times we're in and what we need to do to kind of, you know...change.”

This music video will be a huge milestone in Kenrick’s rap career and he is certainly not letting his momentum run out.

Now, he is working on his second album and mentions that the first song he records on it is called “Systematic Oppression.”

✧⁣⁣⁣ “To me, it feels like a dream. You know, you always grow up, doing whatever it is that you're passionate about and there's part of you that does it for yourself. And there is this other part. It's like, you do it for the people. You do it for the love. You do it for the love of the people that's been around your life the entire way, because they give you the material to put this stuff out. It's a great feeling to be here and to have,” Kenrick says about having his friends and family with him during the video shoot.

He gathered up his fiancé, long time friends, members of his family and some of his students involved in his company Project Gametime, to star alongside him.

Kenrick says he has previously made smaller music video productions but recognizes the “Relax” video as his first major music video.

It was shot at Butter Tree Studios in East Hanover where many high budget videos have been produced such as Bad Bunny’s scene in Enrique Iglesias’ music video El Bano.

Kenrick decided to rent the studio’s equipment for a high quality production to communicate his strong message behind his song “Relax” that speaks to the current civil rights movement.

when you live in an era
where cops kill and kids snitch
just to keep it together
Guess we lost our direction
Now the frustration is building
But ya gotta stay focused and
stay outta your feelings
You gotta relax” (from Relax)

“I kind of felt like this whole experience has been a calling,” says Kenrick. ✧⁣⁣⁣

✧⁣⁣⁣ Ever since the current global civil rights movement began, ignited by the death of George Floyd, local NJ rapper Kenrick Wagner knew he wanted to make a large scale music video production for his most streamed song, “Relax,” on Spotify.

The Passaic NJ resident, musically known as Mister Wagner, wrote “Relax” last year as a part of his eight track album that debuted July 2019.
Although the song was written over a year ago, it is relevant to the current social and political climate in the US.

“The song actually was not directed towards the Black Lives Matter movement and all the social injustices, but it fit because we're in an unsettling time where we're feeling like enough is enough,” he says. “Whoever’s oppressing us or putting us in uncomfortable positions needs to relax.

Kenrick had no idea that “Relax” would become his most popular song from "The Maturation of Mister Wagner," the first album he’s ever released.

The “Relax” video is debuting this Friday, directed and produced by ’s very own Mandonnah Mahallati.

The 40-year-old rapper is also the CEO of Project Gametime, a training and youth development company for students k-12 nationwide.
“I think my humble hope is that people will take the message behind “Relax” and have a different perspective on what it means to be a black male growing up in America or a black female,” says Kenrick.

✧ Retired firefighter and personal chef Jeff Holtz has been pursuing his passion for cooking over the course of the past ten years by running his catering business “Chef Jeff.” Jeff, based in Bridgewater, NJ, has held a huge interest in cooking since he was a teenager. “Catering pretty much came to a halt for most people, because there’s no events. If people aren't getting together, then there’s not a whole lot of need for party caterers. But as things got better, and as we saw there was a big need for take out, that’s when the idea came; you know what we’re going to try to be a part of that takeout scene and see if we can make some weekly menus and get them out to people. It started out slow but it seems to be taking off, the words out.” His second oldest daughter Gabrielle, explains how she witnessed her father’s passion unfold into a business. ✧⁣⁣⁣

✧ Meet Ian Smith, the co-owner of Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, NJ who is gaining national notoriety for defying Governor Phil Murphy’s Executive Order in keeping his gym open. Now, his business license has been taken away after the Bellmawr town council voted this past Tuesday to revoke it. ⁣
⁣
Despite heavy legal action that is being taken against them, the gym remains open with its music blasting and members hard at work. “Everybody in here knows each other, whether you're here for a completely different reason than the next person, you know, everybody comes together, everybody encourages each other and we encourage that,” Smith says. ⁣
⁣
Upon entering, members are scanned for their temperatures and are required to sign a waiver and record their temperature before hitting the equipment which they must agree to spray and wipe down with disinfectant bottles that are individually distributed by the gym. ⁣
⁣
Chris Lambert, the owner of Atilis gym locations in Wildwood, Egg Harbor Township, Sea Isle City and Ocean City has publicly criticized Smith and Frank Trumbetti’s decision to remain open on Instagram by stating “they want to open up before everybody else for attention and for money.” Lambert has expressed disapproval for Governor Murphy’s Executive Order but is complying. ⁣

As of today, Atilis gym will have had approximately 20,000 visits since they opened in May. There has been no linked COVID-19 cases to Atilis gym according to Smith. ✧⁣
