Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County is hosting a Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue Course on November 7th & 8th, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at our Madison County location in Morrisville, NY.

This two-day program, led by Dr. Rebecca Husted, is perfect for anyone involved in the care, transport, or emergency handling of large animals, including:

🐮 Veterinarians
🚑 EMS & First Responders
🐕‍🦺 Animal Control Officers
🏇 Equine Breeders and Trainers
🐄 Large Animal Facility Operators
🚜 Transporters and more!

Be prepared to safely handle large animals in emergencies. Registration is $200 per person.

FEMA has officially declared Madison County eligible for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Helene. Don't disqualify yourself! Submit even things that seem small!

To apply and get answers to your questions, call 1-800-621-3362. 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS) - 1-800-621-3362

You may also apply quickly and easily through FEMA's website www.disasterassistance.gov or download the FEMA App. More information coming soon on a way to apply in-person.

Please have the following available when you apply:
-- Your address with zip code
-- Condition of your damaged home
-- Insurance information, if available
-- Social Security number
-- Phone number where you can be contacted
-- Address where you can get mail or email address to receive electronic notifications

If you are denied, we encourage you to go through the appeal process - sometimes a denial is simply for a missing document that you can easily submit with an appeal.

Direct Deposit: Disaster assistance funds can be sent directly to your bank account. Please provide your bank account type, account number and bank routing number.

Stay in touch with FEMA: When you apply, you will receive a FEMA registration number. Save it. You will need the number whenever you contact FEMA.

Continue to help us help you. If your home has structural or flooding damage, it is critical that you report it to the Property Appraiser's Office at www.madisonpa.com. If you have already reported your home's damage, there is no need to re-report it.

Let us know if your road is still blocked by trees/debris by either commenting below or calling our office at 850-973-3698. If your road is blocked by power lines, that will need to be handled by the power companies. The cut and toss crews will not be able to help with downed power lines in the road.

Remember, many roads may be passable around Madison County but that does not mean they are completely clear. Use caution while driving, especially at night. Drive slower than normal and be mindful of workers on the side of the road.

Comfort stations have been set up around Madison County to provide showers, restrooms, laundry facilities (washer & dryer) and cooling tents.

The comfort stations are available 24 hours a day and will have 24-hour security provided.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

If you are unable to leave your property due to your driveway being blocked by a tree or storm debris, call the emergency operations centers at 850-973-3698. The sheriff’s office will send out a cut crew to remove the obstruction.

Please note they will not be removing trees on houses or cleaning yard debris. This is simply to give you the ability to leave your property. Those with medical needs will be given priority.
