EASTER EGG TREE, Saalfelder Ostereierbaum, Thuringia, Germany 🇩🇪
Volker Kraft and his family have been decorating the tree in their garden since 1965, starting with just 18 plastic eggs, the tree's decoration has grown over the years, reaching over 10,000 eggs by 2012.
Crowds of visitors have flocked to see the tree since news of it spread globally in 2003. The entrance was free, but for curiosity the visitors were counted in 2011 as about 8,000.
The family begins decorating the tree between late February and late March, depending on the weather and the date of Easter, taking them about ten days to complete the task. They remove the eggs before the leaves grow to prevent damage to the tree.
However, as of early 2016, due to Volker Kraft's age and storage limitations, most of the eggs were given away, marking the end of the nearly 50-year tradition.
