I can’t even count on one hand how many business owners come to me and say something along the lines of “I just want to stand out from everyone else” or “I don’t want this — everyone has that.”

I love you all and I want you all to succeed through authenicity, so I’m going to be really blunt with you . As a creative for women in the beauty industry, I see too many brands/women/business owners copying each other.

On the other hand, as a creator, I come across business owners in this area completely stealing my content that I have designed and shared onto my client’s platforms.

Despite popular belief, I do not think that imitation is a form of flattery. I think it’s disrespectful. We all know how much time, effort and energy goes into creating a brand. Why are we taking the short cut and copying our peers?

When you feel inspired and have a strong desire to completely steal or copy another businesses content, website, service, business idea... whatever it is, take a step back (seriously, walk away from it for 24 hours). I want you to reanalyze yourself, your brand and what your goals are as a female and a business owner.

What good is going to come from you copying someone else? Nothing. Not only will it offend someone else and make them feel extremely discouraged in their efforts to be original, but you’ll also lose a small piece of your personality and what makes you original.

So please, be INSPIRED but don’t copy.

Being in a room full of women chasing money and dreams is always so fulfilling 💰🤑

Okay but on a serious note, last night, being surrounded by moms, entrepreneurs, leaders and just straight up bosses chasing their dreams while juggling it all made me feel so inspired.

On top of that, I had the honor of being awarded with ’s Entrepreneur on the Rise award. This award recognizes a business on the rise, a person admired for their growth and advanced skills within their first few years of business.

WOW 🤯 If you nominated me for this award, I am so thankful for you. Thank you for making me feel seen.

I went full time entrepreneur AND had a baby all in the same year. If you have done either of those things… you can probably understand what a YEAR it’s been for me 😅

I’m a “stay at home working mom” as we call ourselves 😅 I’m working every hour I can to make sure that I offer the highest quality deliverables to my clients, squeezing in shoots on the weekends because my husband is home to hang out with our daughter, and sometimes just bringing her along to appointments (because I know yall don’t mind 🤣).

The last 9 months juggling being a new mom and still a new business owner has been a challenge and receiving this award was just the nudge I needed to keep on going.

If you’re in the thick of it, hi 👋🏻 we’re all here right next to you, cheering you on and supporting you.

Last fall at mastermind event, we were asked to define one goal that we had for the coming year. Mine wasn't your typical goal. I said that I had a goal of having a smaller number of clients on my roster who were investing more in their partnership with me.

For years, I chased having as many clients as possible. There was one point where I had 12 monthly social media clients, I still wasn't charging a lot, and I was BURNT OUT 🥵

Now, I have significantly less clients, who pay a higher dollar amount and I'm able to pour more time into their accounts than I was before 🤝

The deeper I get into this entrepreneurial journey, the more I'm valuing a smaller, more in-depth group of people to continuously collaborate with. It feels so good to work with clients for years, learning the ins and outs of their business and being able to do my part so much more efficiently.

This is your sign to go after the people who believe in you enough to make a significant investment in you. ❤️‍🔥

Sounds prettty freakin good, right? 😇

The biggest comment I receive when onboarding clients is something along the lines of, "I don't want to have to even think about posting on my social media ever again."

Home is wherever I’m with you 🏠🤍

This shoot meant a lot to us, Alex and I love the space we call home. We see no desire to move. To us, it’s more than just where we sleep at night. It’s where we bond and grow as a family.

This couch has seen early mornings, late nights, heavy conversations about the world around us, our plans for the future and what life will be like with our new baby girl.

This home has seen 2 previous families come and go. It has seen Alex and I as newlyweds and now new parents. One day it’ll see us as grandparents.

When Harlow came into our world, it was important to us that everything was perfect in our home so that she could see the place where so much love grows.

When hosting a photographer in our home it was so important to us that everything was portrayed with as much love and comfort as we feel each day.

Imagine a pb & j sandwich. Think of your social media manager as the bread. You are the peanut butter and your business is the jelly.

Having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with just the bread would be a pretty boring sandwich, wouldn’t it? 😅

Your customers are following you for YOU. They’re patronizing your services because of YOU. Trust me, they want to see what you’re up to every day! Stories is the perfect place to show them.

You might think the things you do on a day to day basis are mundane and boring, but it’s not. Open up and show your followers your personality on social media just like you would with a client during a service!

Do this consistently for a month and watch your engagement and community skyrocket 🚀

Just like in anything, there are four foundational pillars that will carry the heavy weight.

In short, you need to know your audience, give them GOOD information that will keep them wanting more, talk to your audience and, lastly, do this OFTEN!

Social media is truly an easy game. You just have to follow the rule book and know how to play.

I want to take a moment to shout out

She was such an amazing photographer. She’s so down to earth, so funny, got my husband to genuinely laugh (not many people can do this) and she really understood us within the 1.5 hours we spent with her.

It’s so fun working with other creatives because you can sense in their eyes when a good idea is flowing through their mind but they might be too scared to ask you to do it.

Seeing how passionate was, I immediately said YES to every single time I saw this look in her eyes. Because that’s when you know the result will be incredible.

Thank you for capturing these moments with us. I can’t wait to shoot with you again once baby girl is here ☁️🤍

Yes I did just do that 🤭 I will be out of the office on a self development/ and business trip today through Wednesday, July 19th. I will be checking messages *briefly* throughout the next few days & responding to all messages Thursday, July 20th & Friday, July 21st.

Then, I will be taking one last personal vacation with my husband & friends before baby girl makes her grand entrance. I will be on the road (but working) on Friday, July 21st and then out of the office Saturday, July 22nd through Friday, July 28th. Again, I will be briefly checking messages during the week. I'll use the weekend of the 28th through the 30th to catch up on messages and scheduling.

All social media management clients: your content will go out. You're my #1 priority 😊 All monthly content clients: you have received August's content & per our conversations are more than welcome to keep sending me your content needs through the next few weeks for September.

This girl is ready to *kinda* unplug and learn how to better treat my current and future clients as well as take a little vacay before we welcome our girly to the family.

Additionally, I will not be taking on any more monthly social media clients or content clients until late fall, as my due date is mid-September and offering my husband & baby girl all of my energy and attention is my #1 priority during September & October.

After that, we will continue to dominate ✨

Unpopular opinion:

Setting boundaries as an entrepreneur isn’t selfish or unprofessional. It’s normal.

Most people only work their M-F, 9-5 job… why is it abnormal if us business owners follow those guidelines too?

It’s time we ➖ as the future of America’s work force ➖ start respecting our service providers limits and our own limits.

This can be something as simple as showing up on time for an appointment, scheduling phone calls instead of cold calling, utilizing email for service requests versus texts, being aware of the times that you’re texting/calling your service providers, respecting their off days and not pushing for exceptions, respecting their pricing and not asking for how you can receive their services for “cheaper.” I could go on and on and on.

Long story short… your service provider is human too. We, just like you, have a family that waits for us to come home from work, unplug completely & spend quality time with them.

The takeaway ➖
Service users: be mindful of your provider and their boundaries.

Service providers: Do not feel selfish for setting boundaries, leaving messages or emails unread until business hours & taking care of yourself first. Your industry cannot function if you’re working on a half a tank.

You, your family & your relationships come first. Business comes second.
