Good read.

If we are to have any hope of developing a goodness (tov) culture in our churches, a narcissistic pastor, unempathetic leader must be resisted.

This a great and quick assessment! This is also a great tool for members of the church to assess how much you ACTUALLY know about your church! ⛪️

Many leaders with whom I’ve worked could not answer these questions – questions I believe strong church leaders should be able to answer:

Interesting information given the current conversation of 40% or more of church members not returning to church AND the number of "dones" increasing weekly.

Perhaps there is something more to the leaving or lack of return than we suppose...

There are many reasons why, over time, leaders in the church decide to leave. But there are some common trends that tend to surface as reasons why people feel disenfranchised.

Yes! Be intentional about interacting with people who do not believe the same way you do and who do not yet have a relationship with the Lord.

"You must know people outside the faith. Often pastors must work to do that. Go to your local coffee shop and become a regular, and you'll start seeing the same people. Talk to them." —Daniel Fusco Crossroads Community Church

Incredibly interesting article. We talked some about this in Season 1, Episode 6 of Coffee Breaks With Carter!

“Men are doers, and singing was one of the things we used to do together in church. It was a chance to participate.

Now, with congregational singing going away, and communion no longer a weekly ordinance, there’s only one avenue left for men to participate in the service—the offering.

Is this really the message we want to send to men? Sit there, be quiet and enjoy the show. And don’t forget to give us money.”

Have you ever noticed that when men worship, they tend not to sing as much as women do? I have a theory about why that is.

“A minimal church is not a church of minimal impact. It is a church that has decided that we need to unleash our members to have more time to disciple their families, to become a gospel presence in the community, and to develop relationships in their neighborhoods.

So, a minimal church is really a church with maximum impact and influence. It’s not about a wavering commitment to do less ministry; it’s about a commitment to use our time more wisely for God’s mission outside the walls of the church facilities.”

Yes, Lord, we pray for and desire to see this change in the local church! 🙏

It is time to look at how effective churches of the very near future (like in the next few months) will do only a few things well and eliminate the rest.
