Over a decade ago I a wedding with a cookie and bars bar. So simple, you think. PAH!! It left a LASTING impression. I think about that cookie & bars bar at a minimum of once a week. The varieties they had, you guys!!

If you’re looking for variety and cookies so that you can reminisce 10+ years later, you should check out Brookey Bakes in Ogden! Depending on the season they have chocolate orange cookies, pumpkin spice squares, Kealamakia cookies, mint chocolate cookies, and I need to try their Jimmidoodle!

My friends!! I HAVE THE BEST PROBLEM EVER!! Some of you know that my passion is writing novels and screenplays. At long last, after years and years of getting up at 5 am to write, my career is finally at a tipping point! (Humble brag: my recent screenplay has so far received laurels from 10 different film festivals, 7 of which were finalist rankings!! 🎉) This last year I have tried to balance both my writing and my magazines, and I just can’t bring quality to everything. Something has to give. So I have decided to SELL NORTHERN UTAH WEDDINGS MAGAZINE!! It is the ONLY wedding magazine in Northern Utah—one of the USA’s most matrimony-active regions! One of my favorite weddings I have ever attended was at the breathtaking Cactus & Tropical! The plants, the natural lighting, bring such a feeling of life! Too often buildings feel beautiful but bland. Cactus and Tropicals couldn’t be more opposite! Seriously, tour it and you’ll fall in love. Also if you mention Northern Utah Weddings you will get $100 off their greenhouse rental! I can’t recommend them highly enough. SO GORGEOUS! 😍😍😍

There is something so beautiful about simplifying your wedding day, being able to focus on the significance of what is happening. But you don’t want to lose out on the magic on this day, the most important of your life! Finding a venue with in-house services can provide that balance. 🙌 You don’t have to worry about juggling when the caterers will arrive, or if the cake will be stuck en route. Florals, bartending, aspects where there can be hiccups no longer are concerns because they have what is needed to resolve issues on hand. 👏👏👏

I first found on Instagram. Normally if a business has only a few hundred followers I rudely don’t linger. (My apologies to everyone under this—we’ve all been there!) But as before I left her page, her work caught my eye. WOW!! This girl knows her stuff! Later when she and I connected I asked if her business was so successful that she didn’t need to put time into social media or if she’s just a hidden gem. She said that she’d been doing makeup for years and years, but only recently started her own business. Professionals like this get me so excited—to be the one that digs up the diamonds and shows you had no idea is right in front of you!! Confession—sometimes I go all “fan girl” on our local wedding vendors. But they are just the COOLEST PEOPLE!! I find out your stories, how hard you work, the beauty you are creating. How could I not get all-heart eyes for you??

Like .bakes !! The family that runs this company just hosted a Sandlot Inclusion Game in Ogden to bring awareness to hidden disabilities! Who does that??

Just a few more days until the submissions for the Autumn 2023 Issue are due!! Photographers, we would love to see what you have been up to lately! You can submit weddings, styled shoots, bridals, or engagements. Weddings are our fav :) All submissions need to have taken place between SLC and Bear Lake Valley. Oh my goodness, if you haven’t heard of Morgan and Russ from Powell Weddings & Events then listen up!

Imagine it’s your big day, and from across the room your photographer seems to notice that the DJ is cute. Of course they are professionals and focus on you, but by the end of the night numbers have been swapped.

That’s how Morgan and Russ met!! GOOD NEWS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS!! Have you been wanting to get your work published?? Generally at Northern Utah Weddings, when the work of a photographer catches our eye we ask them specifically to submit. I have loved getting to know you that way!! However, this summer—due to biting off more than can possibly be chewed—we have a handful of spots left to fill! All submissions need to be in by the end of July and those included in our Autumn 2023 Issue will be notified by mid August. Just go to the permalink in the comments to submit!

A few tips on the kind of shoots we are looking for:
—High quality

—Our magazine is all about letting upcoming brides know about incredible local vendors, so weddings with several local vendors will impress us.

—The couple has “the spark”! We love to celebrate different body types, and believe everyone is beautiful when you can see in their eyes how excited they are to spend their life with their best friend.

—Only photos taken between SLC and Bear Lake Valley will be considered.

When it comes to weddings, there are a lot of different directions you can take your budget. Personally, I believe that flowers transform a wedding—they bring life, color, and self expression.
