I know I mentioned in a comment that I wanted to have the next episode of the podcast released by the end of last week, but between the big emotions brought on at the rally and recent heatwave, editing this audio is taking more time than I'd like.
The goal is to bring Ericka home, first and foremost. Sharing the details of her disappearance is just a piece of what needs to be done to make that happen.
And the other pieces are slowly falling into place.

Wherever Ericka is, I know that light she exudes is guiding us to her.

The second JoCoMPP rally went beautifully, in that heartwrenching way. Gathering people who are experiencing a shared pain is not easy. But it's important for the families of Josephine County's missing to know they're not alone.
Last year, I told myself that I would hold Ericka's sign for the majority of the rally, unless somebody who knew her showed up, because her light is the force behind this effort.
This year, I got to meet Ericka's friend Mez in person for the first time. Not only did she hold Ericka's sign, she doubled up and was running around giving all of our missing as much love as she could.
And it hit me, that if it had been Ericka there with me, and she had known one of our missing, she would have seen the signs that were not being held and immediately gotten to work getting as many of their faces seen as she possibly could.

That warmth, that compassion, that love. That's what helps me bear the weight of this work.

I've called Ericka's light a fire before, and while that's still very true.... Sometimes, it's a blaze that's clearing a path. And other times, it's a bonfire for the families of our locally missing to gather around.

25/06/2024

The next episode of A Light For Ericka has a ten page script that covers three important documents I've received within the last year. Some of the information I'm going to be discussing will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers, but when it comes to finding Ericka, I'll ruffle feathers all day long to keep people talking about her. 💜

Reflective post incoming-

Yesterday, somebody I know showed up on my doorstep, someone I grew up with who has had a very hard life. Her story parallels Ericka's in places, diverges in others, but like Ericka, she's one of those individuals who the system has repeatedly failed. She also gets mistaken for Ericka a lot in the summertime, and I receive an abundance of calls and messages from people who have seen my flyers when she's out and about.
I don't see this person much anymore because I don't work in town like I used to. But something guided her to my home yesterday, when she didn't even know that I lived there, and I was able to provide her with water and some food.
I can't help but wonder if some of that was Ericka's light, leading my lost friend somewhere safe, if only for a few minutes.

A small update, since this page and podcast have gained some new traction lately.
I have had another episode ready to go for a while, but it has not been released because I realized that I need to change the tone a little bit.
This work is hard, learning about all of the ways that Ericka was failed by law enforcement is devastating. As a result, when I recorded the unaired episode, more of my anger showed through than I would have liked.
Yes, we all have the right to be angry about how things played out, but unfiltered rage isn't what's going to get more searches considered or approved.

It was infuriating, when the detective on Ericka's case told me that he was not interested in searching the woods around the Deer Creek Road property because "the woods are very dense." Those words will echo in my mind for as long as it takes to find her.

But that detective is only a piece of the problem, and he has the ability to become part of the solution. Showing him how powerful Ericka's light is, how strong her community is, how we will not give up until she is found....well, maybe we can open his eyes. Maybe we can create some movement in her case.

I just know that when I re-record and edit the next episode this month, it's going to be a heavy one. Be prepared.

Thank you so much, Sarah 💜💜💜

New Episode: Ericka Hogg

https://link.chtbl.com/qqz2yAYm

When 39-year-old Ericka Hogg went missing, she was living an alternative lifestyle with a group many have likened to a cult, and the last person to see her has given conflicting stories about the day she went missing.

Ericka Hogg was last seen on May 17, 2018, in the 7800 block of Deer Creek Road in Selma, Oregon. Ericka is white, 5’6”, 100-130 pounds, with hazel eyes and light brown hair with rainbow-colored highlights. She has a ma*****na leaf tattoo on her right bicep and a tattoo of the sun in between her shoulder blades.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3720.

Happy Birthday, Ericka 💙🦋💙 your light shines so bright, and the wellspring of love you would give to those who needed it is still as deep as ever.
You're going to be featured at the Josephine County Missing Person Project table at Josephine County Pride tomorrow with the rest of our locally missing. If you have crossed over, perhaps you have crossed paths with some of them.

Ericka, you beautiful, vibrant faerie-like being. I hope that wherever you are, you still feel the love that we are all giving to you.

The 2024 Walk For Ericka went very well, it was a small but heartfelt gathering, complete with fairy wings and an abundance of love. I hope that wherever she is, Ericka was able to feel the love of the community she vanished from. It has been six long years since she disappeared, but Ericka is far from forgotten.

And you bet, every time a state police vehicle drove by (which happened about seven times), I made sure to remind them that Ericka's case is being handled by their department.

Didn't get photos this year because our favorite local photographer moved out of the area, but if anybody who passed by managed to get photos, please send them to this page or the Josephine County Missing Person Project .

Big plans coming soon, got a few ideas to reignite the search efforts, but those ideas will take time to come to fruition.

💙🦋💙 We love you, Ericka. And wherever you ended up, we're going to work as hard as we can to find you.

Happy International Women's Day to Ericka. These photos of her throughout the years are a few that I hope show you how deep that well of love for her children, and for her life, was. Her light permeates every day. She has missed so many moments, nearly six years of them. We just want answers.

Dear Ericka-

Another year nears its end, but your light is stronger than ever.
There's a $3000 reward for information that leads us to you, which wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the chain of events that brought your story (and so many others) to Crimecon. It was heartbreaking to see your sister Rachel connect with the families of other missing people, but it was so necessary. She needed to connect with others who know the pain she's experienced for the last 5 years.

Your light cannot be diminished, Ericka. It can only shine brighter from here. I know that somewhere out there, somebody will come forward with answers. It's just a matter of reaching the right people.

Happy new year, Ericka. I hope 2024 is the year we bring you home.

Been working on the website for the Josephine County Missing Person Project. I apologize for not posting here more frequently.
Ericka's light is at the heart of this organization, but the people who have been drawn to her light are just as essential to this fight for answers.
Here's a photo that was taken after the incredible moment when we obtained reward pledges for Ericka at CrimeCon, featuring Ericka's sister Rachel, our sponsor John Lordan of LordanArts , members of the Missing Coalition, and the sister of missing person Justin Hooiman.

🖤 Ericka's light is bright enough to pull a reward together in only a few minutes.
We are so grateful for The Missing Coalition and the family of Justin Hooiman.
This is the power of connection and community, two things that Ericka valued and sought before her disappearance.

CrimeCon brought Marilyn Brady Stevenson from Cold Case Coalition to A Light For Ericka . With their help, there is now a reward available for information leading to Ericka's location and physical discovery. All we need is for the right person to come forward, to set their fear aside, and speak out!!!

Dear Ericka-
Hundreds of people saw your face and learned your story at CrimeCon. They spoke with your sister Rachel. Something incredible happened that I'll be announcing soon on this page and the Josephine County Missing Person Project page (as well as other media outlets).

Your light is strong, I see where you get it from after finally getting to spend time with your sister. I have a much deeper understanding of your connection, and of some of the circumstances that led you to wherever you have gone.

I'm going to keep fighting for you, I'm going to keep advocating for you, and in my heart I know that someday this is all going to lead to us finding you and bringing you home.

My heart breaks for Mekenna's loved ones. Like Ericka, she was egregiously failed by a system that does not protect and serve those who experience mental health crises.
Police made contact with Mekenna before she disappeared, when she showed up at a construction site, naked, lacking coherency and in clear distress.
Yet police allowed her to simply drive away, rather than contacting her family or any medical assistance.
This should never have happened. But this will continue to happen to people all over the state, perhaps even the country, until something within our broken system changes.

Deputies said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the woman's disappearance.

Ericka's belief structures are something I've been thinking a lot about lately. Specifically, those she turned from and gravitated towards.

I apologize if I have come off a bit harshly in some of my comments, I do tend to get defensive about Ericka, and there are a lot of things beneath the surface that I have been trying to tread lightly with here.
Everyone handles their grief differently, that pain of losing somebody, and it's made infinitely harder when you watch them slip into the ether of mental illness and further from you before they disappear entirely.
But there is also the pain that Ericka experienced before her vanishing. The judgment. The confusion. Not being able to be a mother to her children, and a part of her not understanding that due to the nature of her illness this was a necessary move. The rift that was placed between she and her loved ones because of this was...vast, and that rift extended towards their idea of God.

So this is why I say, grieve how you like, comment all day.... but please don't post links to your scriptures on here, especially when they were scriptures thaat Ericka felt strongly enough about to leave behind in favor of forging her own path. This is something I ask out of respect for her beliefs.

Everybody's journey in this world is different. Each of us has different strengths and weaknesses, different twists and turns that our story takes.
I'm still learning about Ericka's journey. How the sweet child and feisty- looking teenager in these first two photos became the free spirited woman that I've been telling you all about.

In the meantime, I just wanted to remind you that Ericka is more than the circumstances of her disappearance. She was a little girl with bright and curious eyes. A teenager with a cool demeanor. And now, she is a woman whose family - both blood and chosen- desperately misses her. 🦋❤

The updated JoCoMPP flyer about Ericka includes some more details.
And I would like to remind everybody that we DON'T KNOW IF SHE ACTUALLY HAD A FIREARM. That was just something speculated to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office by Ericka's boyfriend.

Ericka Hogg is a beacon of light, and that light has not been eclipsed despite the fact that she has been missing for five years. The way that her disappearance was mishandled by local authorities is heartbreaking, further compounded by the allegations that many have made about her ex-boyfriend (Larry Anthony Hopkins II, the last person to see her) being abusive towards her.
Is this case really as simple as a woman with mental health issues stealing a gun and running into the forest? Or is there something deeper here?
