LEE CO PURSUIT ENDS IN MILAM CO, 1 SUBJECT IN CUSTODY

Stolen Vehicle Culprit Stopped and Arrested

A pursuit that began in Lee County ended in Milam County with one person in custody.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office about 2:15PM Wednesday, April 24th, about a pursuit of a stolen box truck that was heading toward Milam County.

The chase was initiated by Lexington Police Department and was joined by Lee County deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers. As the chase entered Milam County, our deputies and Rockdale Police deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. Those strips were successful by taking out a front tire on the box truck, bringing the chase to an end on US77 at the US79 overpass on the east end of Rockdale.

Justin Phillip Levis was taken into custody by Lee County and arrested by Lexington Police Department. Levis was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and with unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Lexington Chief Farah Garza said, “When the call came in, Billy Stephens, Lee County Constable Pct. 3 and Adam Gonzales, Constable Pct. 2, along with our officer Corporal Tiffany Reyna responded quickly and pursued the vehicle, receiving support from Lee County Sheriff’s Office and DPS Troopers. I am very proud of Corporal Reyna’s professionalism and with her focus on stopping the suspect and making the arrest. Special thanks to Constables Stephens and Gonzales, as well as to LCSO and DPS. Your continued support of our community is very much appreciated.”

CRITICAL WILDFIRE THREAT

The message below was issued late Wednesday, August 9, by authority of W. Nim Kidd, Chair of the Texas Emergency Management Council and Chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management and forwarded to the Lexington Leader by Lee County Judge Frank Malinak, III.

The message was also forwarded to all mayors, fire chiefs, police chiefs, sheriffs, emergency management coordinators and first responder leadership in Lee and Bastrop counties.

The message said: Very high fire danger is expected in [Lee and Bastrop Counties]. Forecast critical fire weather conditions with increased wind speeds of 15 mph or more and triple-digit temperatures will align with very dry grass vegetation that may result in fires that are difficult to control.

The message continued: Roadside starts are a major cause of wildfires this summer. Avoid parking, driving or idling in dry grass. Watch for vehicles pulling trailer/boats with tow chains or other metal striking the road. Aid the motorists in correcting the issue. Inspect roadside vegetation for ignitions following traffic stops, minor collisions, tire blow outs, etc.

It continued: All responders and emergency planners should plan to react accordingly with operational planning. This includes the potential of activating local emergency alert/notification systems. Local leaders and first responders are requested to take whatever measures they deem appropriate to bring the highest level of readiness equipment and firefighters to meet this threat. Additionally, local leaders are requested to take all necessary steps to inform the public of the critical nature of this threat.
