You know what would make a great holiday gift for foodie friends and family? Wok Wisely, the Chinese vegetarian cookbook from the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Ukiah! And even better, it's free! To get a copy (or two), first sign in at the CTTB administration building on Mindfulness Avenue, which is just inside the main gate at the intersection of Talmage Road and Old River Road. Then ask for directions to the main Buddhal Hall, where the books are displayed. While you're there, have lunch at Jyun Kang, the excellent restaurant inside the City. Their solar canopy will protect you from the elements, and it even powers the truck when the sun isn’t shining. The solar canopy that the Gilbert family of Ukiah built over their tenants’ food truck, Antojitos Mary, is more than a refuge from the elements: It’s a symbol of the deep and supportive connection that the two neighboring clans have forged over the years.

Happy Halloween to all! 👻 If you’re wondering what to do with your jack o’lantern after October 31, don’t toss it - turn it into a delicious pumpkin soup 🎃🥣! Assuming it’s in decent shape (and not full of melted candle wax), you can simply cut it up and purée it the same way you would a butternut squash. Tip: to get the skin off easily, cut the pumpkin into pieces, then place them cut side down on a microwave safe plate with a little water in it. Microwave it until the skin can be sliced away easily (about 3 minutes).

This is HUGE! Congrats to our very own Mendocino County for winning the Wine Enthusiast Star Awards’ “region of the year”! 🍷🏆We’ve always known that we have some of the country’s best wine, and now the rest of the U.S. is catching on! It should also come as no surprise that 1/3 of all organically farmed vineyard acreage in California is in Mendo county. Kudos Mendocino, and let’s cross our fingers that Lake County will be next year‘s winner!
