This one is a hard pill to swallow for most of us... including me! (Kameron)

Many of us start service-based businesses because we enjoy the process and outcome of what we can do for others. However, as your business grows, you take on more clients and more offerings, your ability to juggle it all dwindles to the point of overwhelm and overload.

If you're at that point... where you feel like there's not enough time in the day for everything and things like posting and interacting on social media are getting pushed aside for bigger ticket tasks, it might be time to consider offloading some responsibility.

How many pictures do you have of yourself?
If you're a mom, chances are you have a kid on your hip in many of your photos. There's also a good chance you don't have many photos of yourself that aren't selfies, don't include other people, and that are high enough quality to fit in with your business brand.

We know exactly how you feel!! (Case in point - This photo from a trip to Colorado. I have ZERO photos of myself alone from this trip and this is not an exception: it's been the rule for me. - Kameron)

When it comes to social media for business, content that includes real people tends to perform much better than content only showing your products or services. Photos and videos showing you and your team are needed for most businesses to see good results from organic posting. Some businesses can get away with less people being featured (restaurants for example) however, that's not the case for most.

Think about it... it's been 16 years since I (Kameron) created my first Myspace account. Shortly after, I moved to Facebook and then added Instagram. The rest is history...

Social media allows businesses to potentially be in front of their ideal customer multiple times per day, create a community and encourage real connections by interacting, and can serve as a means of communicating real-time updates about the business, merchandise, and more.

So, what does "Optimize your social channels for search" even mean? Where do you start?

1. Include relevant keywords and hashtags in your posts and in your bio.
2. Create a username that is easy to search for.
3. Keep your username consistent across accounts to be easily found.

One other thing I need to mention is...
If you serve a specific location, make sure to mention that location in your profile or description on every social media account so people understand where you are located and if you can serve them. If your business has multiple locations with different social accounts, it's also a good idea to use the location/city name in your username or page name. Otherwise, people have to click through multiple accounts to find the one they are looking for.

How to build your social media strategy:

1. Clearly define your target audience.
2. Focus on a few strategic social media channels and optimize them for search.
3. Develop your goals and tactics for reaching your target audience on each platform.
4. Measure the results and adjust accordingly for what is working and what's not.

At times, it's trial and error when it comes to what resonates with your audience however, if you have a really good understanding of who you’re serving, it's easier to communicate directly to the needs and wants of that individual.
