CHARLESTOWN PD PRESS RELEASE:

***PRESS RELEASE***

On January 6, 2022 at approximately 7:00 pm the Charlestown Police Department Emergency Dispatch Center received a report of a 2006 Ford Mustang travelling north on Claremont Road, otherwise known as Route 12, around Fling Road without headlights on and driving erratically. Witnesses described the Ford Mustang as driving far to the right side of the road into the breakdown lane then swerving into the southbound lane of Claremont Road. Shortly after this report Dispatch received information that the Ford Mustang collided with another vehicle head on in the area of the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park on Claremont Road.

The initial investigation reveled that the operator of the 2006 Ford Mustang was occupied by one person, the female driver. As the Ford Mustang was travelling north on Claremont Road it crossed the centerline colliding head on with a 2013 Subaru Forester that was occupied by a female driver and a male passenger.

As a result of the collision the female driver of the Ford Mustang was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the Subaru Forester also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The male passenger of the Subaru Forester was transported by the Golden Cross Ambulance Service to a local hospital due to serious injuries. His condition is not known at the time of this release. The Charlestown Police Department will not be releasing the identities of the victims of this crash until proper notifications can be made to family members.

Assisting the Charlestown Police Department and the Charlestown Fire Department at the scene were the New Hampshire State Police, Golden Cross Ambulance, Springfield Fire Department, and the New Hampshire DOT. This crash is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Chief Patrick Connors or Lt. Jonathan Graham at the Charlestown Police Department, 603-826-5747.

CHARLESTOWN — Two women died Thursday night when their cars collided on Route 12, shortly after one of them was seen driving erratically, according to local police.

Charlestown police did not name either woman — both of whom were pronounced dead on the scene — saying they first planned to notify the victims’ families.

A man who was a passenger in one of the cars suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to Springfield (Vt.) Hospital, Chief Patrick Connors said. The man was later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, where he was conscious and talking late Thursday, Connors said. His exact condition was still unknown, however.

An initial investigation determined the head-on crash occurred when one of the women, driving a 2006 Ford Mustang, crossed into the opposite lane while traveling north on Route 12 (Claremont Road), according to the news release.

Charlestown police had earlier — around 7 p.m. — received a report that the Mustang was driving erratically and didn’t have its headlights on, the release states. Witnesses said the car had been going into the breakdown lane on the right side of the road and then swerving into the opposite lane.

The collision occurred a short time later near the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park off Route 12, police announced.

The Mustang’s driver was ejected from her vehicle and killed, according to the news release. The woman driving the other car — a 2013 Subaru Forrester — also suffered fatal injuries, and her passenger was hospitalized.

Route 12 remained closed shortly after 11 p.m., according to Connors, who said he expected police to reopen the road about half an hour later.

In addition to local authorities, N.H. State Police, Golden Cross Ambulance, the Springfield, Vt., Fire Department and the N.H. Department of Transportation responded to the scene.

Charlestown police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chief Connors or Lt. Jonathan Graham at 603-826-5747.

With winter closing in, several Massachusetts towns that are struggling to find snow plow drivers are now offering hourly pay of up to $200 an hour for contract drivers in hopes of keeping the roads clear in the coming months.

“On this day 20 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights, 2606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning, 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift, 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol, and eight paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001.

In one single moment, life may never be the same. As you live, enjoy the breaths you take today. And tonight, before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, never take one second of your life for granted”
