The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Singer/songwriter, Peter Yarrow, best known as a member of the influential folk group Peter, Paul, and Mary, has died, this according to the New York Times.

Yarrow played a pivotal role in shaping the folk music scene of the 1960s and beyond. With his bandmates, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers, Yarrow achieved widespread fame through their hit songs, including “Puff the Magic Dragon,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and “If I Had a Hammer.”

Yarrow’s music was deeply intertwined with the social and political movements of his time, as the group used their platform to advocate for civil rights, peace, and environmental causes. Throughout his career, Yarrow remained committed to activism, working with organizations that promoted education, social justice, and children’s welfare. In addition to his musical contributions, Yarrow produced and composed songs, earning critical acclaim for both his creative work and his efforts to engage with pressing societal issues.

After the disbandment of Peter, Paul, and Mary in the 1970s, Yarrow continued his musical career as a solo artist while maintaining his dedication to activism. He received numerous awards for his artistic and humanitarian work, cementing his legacy as both a musical icon and a tireless advocate for positive social change.

Yarrow was 86, at the time of his passing. His memory will live on through his music.

The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Wayne Osmond who rose to fame as a member of his family singing act, The Osmond Brothers, has died, this according to KSL-TV News.

He along with brothers; Alan, Jay, & Merrill first stepped onto the world’s stage as a barbershop quartet known as The Osmond Brothers. Younger siblings soon joined & they were simply called The Osmonds. Wayne’s musical talents weren’t limited to guitar and singing the performer also played the flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, banjo, piano, drums, and bagpipes.

In 1970, they topped the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with “One Bad Apple”. The Osmonds scored two additional Top 5 hits. “Yo-Yo” went to #3 in 1971, while “Down By The Lazy River” landed at #4, in 1972.

From TV to the music charts, audiences around the globe fell in love with this family.

He traded in his microphone for a pair of wings. Wayne was an avid aviation aficionado and loved to fly airplanes.

Wayne was 73 years old. His memory will live on through his music.

Rest in peace, Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel laureate who redefined the post-presidency through humanitarian work, passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday at the age of 100. His son, Chip Carter, confirmed the news.

Carter, the longest-living U.S. president, entered hospice care in early 2023 after a series of health challenges. Born in Plains on October 1, 1924, Carter rose from humble beginnings to become the only Georgian elected to the White House. His presidency (1977–1981) was marked by historic achievements, such as the Camp David Accords, which brought peace between Egypt and Israel, and a focus on human rights. However, his tenure faced challenges, including the Iran hostage crisis and economic struggles, leading to his defeat in the 1980 election.

After leaving office, Carter dedicated his life to philanthropy, founding the Carter Center in Atlanta with his wife, Rosalynn, to promote health, democracy, and peace worldwide. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity, personally building homes for the underprivileged. His contributions earned him the Nobel Peace Prize and numerous accolades.

Carter’s life embodied service and compassion, with historians predicting his legacy will continue to grow. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rosalynn Carter, his wife of 77 years, passed away in November 2023. Together, they left an indelible mark on the world, remembered as one of the most impactful couples in modern history.

In the late afternoon of Thursday, April 27, 1989, the body of an unidentified female homicide victim was discovered in Hoosier Valley. The victim was soon identified as Linda Marie Meteer, 41 years old, of the Traverse City area. At the time of the murder, Linda was a mother to five children, a sister, and a daughter.

This Christmas eve, Dec. 24th is Linda’s birthday, and she would be 77 years old.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office has continued throughout the years to investigate this unsolved murder with the goal to let the family know we will never forget their loved one.

It is believed that with the advancements in technology and forensic sciences, the continued dedication of our detectives, and information from our community, we will be able to identify the suspect in this murder and bring them to justice.
