Congratulations to the CSPA Class of 2024! These 21 students were a diverse batch: editors in chief, an All-American athlete and a SAG-AFTRA card-carrying actor, among others. All were united by a love for journalism.

Their enthusiasm was apparent from the moment they arrived on campus. They were met with an intensive, challenging experience — one that certainly tested their perseverance, but nonetheless propelled learning and growth.

Courtrooms, wildfires and floods came to life; students were tasked with reporting real-world news events. They also tried their hands at everything from sports coverage to column writing to broadcast journalism. There were opportunities to explore creative pursuits, as well. The capstone digital projects class sent them all in unique directions, as they raced to interpret their stories in a new light. One student digitally painted original illustrations. A handful created infographics. Others filmed videos featuring their peers as actors. All produced impressive digital media that effectively enhanced their stories.

It wasn’t always easy, but they came out on top — in the classroom and out on the volleyball courts.

We’re delighted to welcome this splendiferous class into the CSPA family. May they never forget that news never sleeps.

Our 73rd annual workshop will be held July 14-26 on the campus of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Students get the chance to build relationships with professional journalists and develop the skills they need to thrive in a competitive media environment. Students will learn best practices for multimedia storytelling and strengthen their writing skills. The emphasis on writing concisely, persuasively and on deadline also translates well to college applications and course work.
