The Pinglu Rift Valley, located in the vast Loess Plateau of north-central China, is a witness to the Earth's dynamic geological history. Covering an area of approximately 400,000 square kilometers, this remarkable feature is a striking example of the constant evolution of the earth's shell, shaped by forces active deep within our planet. Pinglu Rift Valley's roots are particularly based on the intricate dance of the earth's crust. About 10 million years ago, this breathtaking valley began to form under the influence of tectonic forces. Two massive tectonic entities, the Eurasian Plate and the North China Bloc, have embarked on a journey of separation. These gigantic plates are where Pinglu Rift Valley is located today. A fascinating world unfolds as you enter the heart of Pinglu Rift Valley. It descends to a depth of about 100 meters at the deepest point of the rock, which is about 10 kilometers long and 1-2 kilometers wide. Steep cliffs shaped by the relentless forces of nature surround the valley built from larch, a type of wind tortoise that tells the story of ancient winds and changing landscapes.

In 1963, a Turkish homeowner discovered the underground city of Derinkuyu while renovating his home. This extensive complex features 18 levels and was built around 1200 BC, initially by the Hittites. It was later expanded by the Phrygians and further developed by early Christians, adding chapels, stables, and facilities for producing wine and olive oil. Derinkuyu could house approximately 20,000 people, serving as a refuge throughout history during various invasions and conflicts.

During the construction of the Antakya Museum Hotel in Turkey, workers unearthed a breathtaking archaeological marvel: the largest intact mosaic in the world. Spanning an impressive 1050 square meters, this ancient mosaic once adorned a significant public building in the historic city of Antioch. Archaeologists believe the mosaic, dating back to the sixth century, was possibly part of a government building. Inside, artifacts dating to the Hellenistic Age (beginning in 323 BC) were discovered alongside the mosaic's intricate geometric and figural designs, offering a glimpse into the artistic sophistication of the period. Rather than relocating this massive masterpiece, the hotel was ingeniously designed to float above it, incorporating special platforms and viewing points that allow guests to admire this extraordinary relic from the past

The underground city of Naours, located in northern France’s Picardy region, is a remarkable network of tunnels and chambers that dates back to the Middle Ages. This extensive subterranean complex, known as “Les Souterrains,” was built as a sanctuary for locals during invasions and civil unrest, including the Norman conquests and religious conflicts. While its primary purpose was to provide shelter, the origins and full extent of its design remain partly uncertain. Spanning about 3 kilometers, Naours features around 300 rooms, including chapels and stables, interconnected by intricate galleries and ventilation shafts. Atlit Yam is a 9000-year-old submerged Neolithic village off the coast of Atlit, Israel, in the Levantine sea. Dating back to at least the final Pre-Pottery Neolithic period, between 6900 and 6300 BC, Atlit Yam covers an area of approximately 10 acres and lies at a depth of between 8 to 12 meters underwater. The site has been submerged due to post-glacial sea level rising. The site was discovered and has been excavated since 1984, revealing a wealth of artifacts, structures, and human remains that provide a snapshot of Neolithic life. These include stone-built houses, wells, and a series of water wells that are among the earliest known in the world, indicating advanced techniques for freshwater management. There was also the discovery of a semi-circular arrangement of stones around a spring, along with animal remains and human burials. More than 100 human skeletons have been found, providing valuable data on diet, health, and lifestyle. Some skeletons showed signs of tuberculosis, offering early evidence of the disease in prehistoric times
