buffet for two $58 for the food and $5.80 tax, bringing the total to $63.80. The server only brought tea and coffee; everything else we got ourselves. So I tipped $2, because $1 per item feels fair for the actual work done. Last year I would’ve blindly tipped $10 just because it was “expected,” but not anymore. We need to stop following made-up rules and tip based on real effort, not guilt.

All I did was take his phone to the bathroom because mine was dead, and I needed to look up how to fix the leaking toilet. I came back to find he'd destroyed two years of my DIY work in five minutes flat. Everything on the floating shelves is now broken. My refinished coffee table, which took three weeks of sanding and staining, was flipped and scratched. He even ripped the macrame plant holder I'd just finished, where I sell my handmade pieces. The pattern pieces for my next project were scattered everywhere like confetti. Over a phone. He knew every single piece in this room was made with my own hands; he knew how many hours I'd spent learning from YouTube tutorials and trying again when I messed up. Now I'm sitting in what looks like a DIY demolition site, wondering how someone who claimed to love me could destroy everything I created just because I took his phone for five minutes. I've already changed the locks, but honestly, the damage to my trust hurts worse than the damage to my apartment.

NSW: Neighbour refusing to pay for agreed fence & damaging it — do we have a legal case?.
Hi all, We moved into our NSW home in September 2024. Our boundary fence was in poor condition, so we spoke to our neighbour and verbally agreed to split the cost of a new one.

The fence has now been built. After it was completed, our neighbour changed his mind and said he “doesn’t see any benefit” and won’t pay. He was happy with the plan beforehand, but now refuses to contribute.

Since then, he has:

Drilled screw holes into the fence on his side.

Attached an awning directly to the fence without our permission.

The fence is on the boundary line, so it’s jointly owned.

We’ve tried speaking with him calmly — he flat-out refuses to pay and continues altering the fence as if it’s solely his.

We’ve documented everything, including the damage and communication. We’d prefer to resolve this without legal drama, but are we legally entitled to:

Recover half the cost of the fence?

Request (or claim for) repairs for the damage and unauthorised modifications?

Any advice on next steps, or experience with NCAT in similar cases, would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

I live at 6400 feet elevation. The nearest grocery store (8 miles away as I drive around ranch land, but probably only 5 miles as the crow flies) is at 5900 feet. Sometimes on the way home (all uphill) a chip bag will inflate like a balloon and pop in the car. Sometimes a refrigerator biscuit tin will bust. Sometimes it just gets pressurized and the slightest touch sets it off later when unbagging. You get the picture. The air is thinner up here and the pressure change affects food packages. It's fairly routine.
Today I experienced something new. I bought a jar of marshmallow fluff for my boy- not something I ever buy. When he tried to open the inner seal, it quickly came extruding out. He tried another side in order to get a less sticky grip and then it was shooting out of the other side too. (Thusfar, shoes and bananas have not been affected by our regular changes in elevation.)

Staring at a $100 check with a $0 tip is wild. People enjoy a full-service meal—hot plates, refills, dealing with chaos—yet treat tipping as optional. It’s not. It’s part of the cost of dining out.

If you can't afford the tip, you can't afford the restaurant. Servers rely on tips to pay bills, going home sore and tired after making your experience possible. Enjoying luxury service while refusing to tip is embarrassing behavior. If you can afford the meal, you can afford to take care of your server.

That's real life. Do better. Tip, no matter what.

I found this in a handbag I thrifted yesterday. I didn't notice it until today. I wonder if I should go and let the thrift shop know. One of my friends says I definitely should return it. I told her I don't think I need to, but she insists she knows what she's talking about because she used to work as a thrift store manager before. Should I return it? I think since I bought the bag, I feel like I don't have to, but I'm not sure.
