Also in 1978, Donna Summer went to No. 1 on the US Albums chart with her first live album, and second double album, "Live And More."
This was a concert recording where Donna performed at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, California on June 17, 1978. She opened her concert with "Once Upon A Time" (a recording that appeared in the B-Side of "MacArthur Park" in the US). In addition to her disco hits, Donna also experimented with jazz songs as featured in the "My Man Medley" on Side 2. The concert wraps on Side 3 with "Last Dance" of which she won an Academy Award (Best Original Song from the film Thank God, It's Friday) and a Grammy Award for in 1979. Side 4 features the entire 17-minute "MacArthur Park Suite" with "One Of A Kind" and "Heaven Knows" featured in the medley.
This is, perhaps, my favorite live album of all time. It captures Donna Summer at her best which is exciting considering the album "Bad Girls" would be released the next year. One of her ballads, "Mimi's Song," dedicated to her daughter Mimi Sommer, is sure to bring a tear to your eye. And, IMHO, the pictures showcased across the album are some of her most gorgeous and iconic photos!
Fun Fact: At the site of what used to be the Universal Amphitheatre (demolished in 2013) sits The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.
