Hey Everyone!
I wasn't sure when to do this particular post because there isn't really an exact release date for this album. From what I could find, it was released this month (October) in 1981. With that said, I'd like to spotlight this album that, I believe, is a little overlooked in the Bee Gees catalog and that album is "Living Eyes."
The discourse surrounding this album is that it was a hard pivot for the Brothers Gibb following the backlash against disco which was largely encapsulated by the "Disco Demolition Night" event in Chicago. As such, because they were considered the "Kings Of Disco," radio stations across the country refused to play ANY song or album with their name. So, the Bee Gees took a more soft rock approach. One particular critique is that the album sounds "too commercial" and, to my understanding, it was made in a rush to try and dissociate themselves as just "a disco act." Robin, Barry and Maurice have dismissed it as their "weakest," but Barry had admitted years later that it was "[their] finest in terms of depth" and that it was important to take that new direction.
Do you remember this album? If not, take the chance to listen to it. Personally, the title track along with "He's A Liar" are the strongest. Also, there is considerably less falsetto in the album which makes sense considering the circumstances. Listen to the title track down below!
