Taylorville Police Department believes in being transparent. We had a tragedy today in our great City and before the rumors go around here are the FACTS. This is a very sad situation two lives lost.

On Tuesday, December 31st at approximately 1:08P.M., Taylorville Police responded along with Taylorville Fire Department and Dunn’s Ambulance to 1015 E. Adams, Street, Taylorville for a male subject suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

Upon arrival Officers found Jason R. Bright, age 40 bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest area. Officers started first aid and secured the scene for arriving medical personnel. Mr. Bright was transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation it was learned that the suspect, Michaela L. Herpstreith, age 21, fled to a different location. Officers were able to take her into custody without incident and was transported to the Taylorville Police Department. Both were known to law enforcement to be in a relationship. Michaela L. Herpstrieth was charged with Homicide and transported to the Christian County Sheriffs Office for processing. This investigation is ongoing.

This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the citizens in Taylorville.

Thank You to States Attorney Mike Havera for reviewing the case and approving charges.

Be Well
Chief

On 11-27-2019 at approximately 2245 hours members of the Taylorville Police Department while conducting narcotic enforcement conducted a traffic stop which led to the arrest of Charles R. Hays, 42 years of age of Langleyville. Mr. Hays was charged with armed violence and possession of m**hamphetamine and possession of m**hamphetamine with intent to deliver (M**h Delivery). Mr. Hays was arraigned today and his bond was set at 800,000 dollars. Mr. Hays has an extensive criminal history. Taylorville Police believe that he was a source for distributing m**hamphetamine in Christian County.

Taylorville Police would like to thank Mike Havera for approving Mr. Hays charges after review. Mr. Havera made it clear in court that this will not be tolerated in this County.
Thank You
