I had the honor of speaking at ’s September membership meeting to chat all things marketing! 🎉

Something I do every year in my business (and that I recommend other small business owners do too) is do an annual audit of your marketing. I know hearing the word “audit” may make it sound like this big scary thing... but really, it’s just taking some dedicated time to review all your efforts. Reflect on what you’ve been doing, see where you could make improvements, and make plans for the year ahead!

With things like this, one of the biggest obstacles for many is not knowing where to start. If I lived in Paris… This would be the place 💕✈️ Although real talk, 👀 I’d rather live in London… LOVED it there so much!

Alas, I’m officially back in the office after 10 days abroad in London, Canterbury and Paris! Which fellow biz owners, you know what a feat taking 10 days off can be 😅

It was such an amazing time exploring new places, learning about the culture and trying lots of new food though! It was our first trip abroad so we definitely did as much as we could too! If you know how I plan itineraries… then you know 😂!

As fun as it was though, I’m not going to lie, it felt so good to get back into that morning routine today. I’m a routine girly through and through. Anyone else feel that way about vacays? 🙋🏼‍♀️

So excited to get back to work with my trusty doggo sidekick by my side! 🐶

This week I hit my 9th anniversary of becoming an entrepreneur 🤯

I’m not quite sure how that happened because it doesn’t feel like that long ago I was starting my first business from the balcony of my studio apartment in NYC. Alas, somehow 9 years has gone by and it’s been a journey for sure!

A piece of advice that has been really helpful in my business? Timing yourself for all of the tasks in your business. Thanks for the tip .io!

Not only can timing yourself help you with time management and planning your days but it can also be eye-opening when it comes to tasks that are sucking up your time, outsourcing, and even your pricing. Swipe through for some of the benefits! ➡️

At first I thought timing everything may be a little tedious, but it ended up being super easy in my project management software Clickup! I just set a timer on the task I’m working on and wa-lah! The benefits are well worth the extra step too!

Not going to lie, I’m truly feeling unstoppable coming out of this week too! Y’all… I had 5 amazing new biz calls this week (with another full week of calls scheduled next week 😳), kicked off new design projects, onboarded 2 new clients, prepped project logistics for March/April projects, submitted two website designs and a logo, crushed my client social media content calendars and a whole lot more…

I said it had been a WEEK! My favorite kind of week filled with so much excitement, success, and all of those feel-good vibes.🥰 And while every week certainly isn’t this eventful (or awesome), I truly savor these moments as a business owner. Because we all know it can be a rollercoaster 🎢.

For every season where you are CRUSHING it, there’s been another where business was slow, you’ve doubted yourself, or things just didn’t go as you had hoped. Trust me… going into my 9th year of biz I’ve been through A LOT! 🤪 Just like life, it’s a journey though and when you’ve found your calling it really is worth all of the ups and downs.

So incredibly grateful to work with my clients and do work that I truly love! 💕

Squarespace is always making updates and improvements to its platform and
one of the big ones it has made in the last few years is upgrading from version 7.0 to 7.1.

While both are still supported and updated, in the last year or so, Squarespace decided to start rolling out some of their newer features to 7.1 only. 😅 Some of those key updates being their new editing experience Fluid Engine, Courses, Portfolio pages, Product Waitlists, and access to Afterpay.

While I’ve come to love the updated platform and the flexibility, upgrading wasn’t really something I was recommending to most of my clients for a few reasons.

1️⃣ Up until recently, the process to upgrade required you to create a whole new Squarespace account and rebuild your website from scratch, which was not ideal for clients with a ton of pages or lots of blogs
2️⃣ while the editing experience was a lot more flexible, that alone wasn’t a good enough reason to recommend it to a lot of my clients.
3️⃣ real talk, redesigning your whole website wasn’t a cheap project so I wanted to make sure it would be worth it for your business

Recently Squarespace created an upgrade option for existing 7.0 websites though so I’ve found my recommendations on the topic have definitely shifted some.

It’s definitely still a “it kind of depends” type of situation depending on your business needs, but I’ve found upgrading has been a good fit for many with the new upgrade option. One of my big goals over the last year has been to find more balance in my schedule and while I don’t think there’s a ‘perfect’ balance there have certainly been a lot of things that have been helpful for me.👇

1️⃣ Turned off my push notifications for my email: This one was BIG for me. I started my career in PR and we were expected to reply to emails almost instantaneously and it’s something I let follow me for years to come. It was interrupting my workflow, causing stress every time I heard my notifications go off and it just wasn’t working for me anymore. So I turned those babies off. Yes, I still check email regularly but I no longer feel the constant need to read them the second they come in.

2️⃣ Being more flexible with my office hours: Over the last year, I’ve also been focused on prioritizing more of my health and fitness goals and two of the big ones are quality sleep and my workouts. So I threw out set start times and now I prioritize getting rest and getting my workout in before diving into work.

3️⃣ Feeling less guilt if I want to work in the evenings: This goes along with the second one but real talk, sometimes I enjoy working in the evenings. 😱 unpopular opinion I know. While there’s certainly a difference in working ALL day and ALL night, I realized if I want to work a little in the evening it’s OKAY! This gives me more flexibility for a mid-day break to walk Benji. Plus I often get creativity bursts at night so I’ve just embraced that it works for me sometimes.

4️⃣ Plan days off in advance: At my yearly retreat, I do my best to block off days in advance for vacations and other random days off so I can plan my project deadlines around my life — not the other way around.

5️⃣ Blocking different tasks in my business and being strategic about deadlines: I usually don’t schedule calls on Mondays or Fridays, I have dedicated days for different tasks in my business, and I plan lighter workloads for Fridays. Which also gives me more flexibility for internal tasks or the option to take a half day or 3-day weekend.

The fear of putting yourself out there on social media is REAL!

I can tell you that because, number one... I’ve been there! And number two, I wrote a blog post on this topic a couple of years ago and it is STILL consistently one of the top-visited posts on my website every single month. So if you struggle with this you are NOT alone.

Top reasons I’ve seen why people are afraid to show up?
1️⃣ You don’t like being the center of attention
2️⃣ You sometimes stumble over your words or just aren’t the best speaker on video
3️⃣ You’re afraid of what others will think of you

Now I’m not saying any of these aren’t good reasons to be afraid of showing up, but I will say one of the best ways to really promote your business, expertise, and message is by being a part of your content. Whether that’s through photos, video or both. Because as humans, we connect with other people and when you’re a small business being able to connect your business with a name and face can really make an impact.

As someone who has decided to show up ANYWAYS despite any fears, I can tell you that there are so many more GREAT things that can come out of showing up for your business online.

🎉 You spread the word about your business and connect with others who are ideal clients or customers
🎉 You can amplify your story or message and make connections with others who have been in similar situations or could really use your message
🎉 You’re able to build a community and connect with others around the country (and even world)

So yes, showing up can be scary AF! But what’s scarier to me is if you let the fear of what Susie from high school thinks hold you back from doing something that could really help your business.

Here’s the thing though, having an updated website is so important for our businesses. It’s where potential clients and customers are visiting to learn about us and our services/products so you want to make sure it’s up-to-speed! Here are some of the things I rec reviewing 💕

Maybe this is stats, how long you’ve been in business, or when you’re accepting projects. Anything dated get it updated!

Make sure your services are up-to-date and also any yearly price changes have been reflected.

Do you have any new ones you want to highlight? It’s also a great time to check in with past clients to ask for them.

4️⃣ Case Studies/Clients You’ve Worked With
Does your portfolio need updating? Or if you highlight logos of clients you’ve worked with, make sure it’s up-to-date.

5️⃣ Update Photos
Could the photos on your website use a refresh? Upload new ones or it’s a great time to book a branding shoot.

This 👆I truly believe this to my core.

If we aren’t intentional about our time, it’s so easy for another year to go by and be exactly where you are now.

You’ll start that podcast when we have more time… You’ll start that business after you’ve read a few more books on business… You’ll start planning that big trip once things calm down a little. So many.. “I’ll do it some day…” situations, but what if that day never comes?

If we really want to take action, being intentional, planning ahead and setting deadlines can be the game changer in getting the ball rolling and guess what includes all of those things… goal planning!

I know I’m a little extra about my processes, but it’s because I’ve truly seen the power of how having processes in place can really make a difference in getting ish done!

I created this specifically because I’ve had so many others ask about my goal setting process and how they think having some guidelines would really help them.

🚫No boring annual reports around here! For this custom @Squarespace website design project we went to town on custom design features to create a really fun and interactive experience for their annual benefit report. Typing, loading and underlining animations, parallax scrolling effects, animated gifs, custom pop-ups, sticky sections, accordion menus, photo/graphic scrolls, and more. This project really had a little bit of everything to capture the energy they were after!

That freshly updated branding and logo portfolio feeling! 🥳🙌 To kick off the new year, I worked really hard to get my portfolio updated and I’m so excited to give you a peek at some of my favorite logos I designed over the last year! You can check out even more on my website linked in my bio!

When I was working on updating my portfolio I realized this cutie never got the attention it deserved on my Insta feed! It's still one of my favorite designs and is full of so much magic!🔮✨ I only wish I lived closer so I could experience @therealmagichouse in person! *Design showcased was worked on both while at my previous business Bold & Pop and Going Bold Studio

Cue the confetti because @partyatmyplate has a brand new website! 🥳🎉🥳🎉 I can't tell you how much fun it was working with @rweigle to bring her vision to life! Rebecca wears a lot of hats in life... she's a mom, graphic designer, party and photography enthusiast, and self-proclaimed theme queen. And she wanted a corner on the Internet to share some of the things that fill up her plate as well as showcase how people can work with her. This project has been a long time coming for her, so it was so exciting to help her take that next step to make it a reality! For the design of her lifestyle and blog website, we were focused on creating a multi-purpose design that was also high on the fun factor! Including a blogging component, online shop, freebies library and a page dedicated to the many services and partnership opportunities she offers. Here's a peek at the homepage design and you'll have to follow along at @partyatmyplate to stay tuned for her official launch!

I'm so excited to share the brand new website design for @astepaheadkids today! I've been so lucky to work with A Step Ahead in Pierce County over the years on various projects and it was such an honor to also get to help them with their website design when they were looking for a refresh! Seriously, I love working with their team so much! 💖 Not only do they have an amazing team, but they do incredible work at their non-profit. Where they offer various in-home and community-based services that support families of infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. Including everything from speech and language pathology, physical therapy, infant mental health, occupational therapy, vision services, special instruction, play groups, field trips and a WHOLE lot more! One of the biggest focuses for their redesign was creating a website that not only looked great, but would also be easy for their team to update themselves post-launch. Which is one of my favorite parts of designing Squarespace websites for my clients! Because we can design beautiful websites and then they receive a training video with the ins and outs of every page and feature on their websites so that they are empowered to make changes themselves!
