“Dear Editor: I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, ‘If you see it in The Sun it’s so.’ Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?”

Eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun newspaper, and the quick response was printed as an unsigned editorial Sept. 21, 1897. The work of vetera…

Congratulations and good work, TMPD, OCSD and MCSD.

In the Air Last Night- Yesterday at approximately 6:15 P.M. Air1 assisted the Madison County Sheriff's Office - NY and the Town of Manlius Police Department with a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that was taken from a burglary on Pleasant Street in the Village of Manlius on September 3rd. The vehicle was observed entered into Onondaga County from Madison County when ground units lost sight of the vehicle. Information was quickly developed that the vehicle was possibly seen traveling East on Route 92 towards Cazenovia. Air1’s flight crew checked the area and observed the vehicle as it traveled back into Madison County, where ground units attempted to stop the vehicle in the Village of Cazenovia. The driver failed to comply and was able to elude pursuing ground units. Air1’s flight crew continued to observe the vehicle from above and provide it's location. While traveling south on Nelson Road near Erieville Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a residence. The suspect exited the stolen vehicle, fled northbound on foot, and was observed checking several parked vehicles in an attempt to steal one. Air1’s flight crew directed ground units to the suspects location where the suspect was quickly taken into custody in the 3300 block of Route 20.

Great work by all involved!

An F-M High School student was found to be in possession of an unloaded pellet gun today, according to a recorded phone message sent to F-M parents. The student didn't threaten students or staff, but did show the weapon to some students, who told staff. High school staff and the Manlius police officer assigned to the high school confiscated the weapon.

"We are grateful to the students who came forward and alerted a staff member to what they saw and heart," said Superintendent Dr. Craig Tice in the message.

Possessing any kind of weapon or weapon look-alike is a violation of the school's code of conduct.

Tice said the district will address this incident with the student body on Friday. Tomorrow is a day off from school in honor of Veteran's Day.
