Once a reporter….the Dali is the 299 meter length cargo ship that has collided with the Frances Scott Key Bridge at Baltimore.

The Singapore owed container ship is chartered by Maersk shipping.

Its recent ports have been temporarily blocked as the number of crew on board which is sometimes standard as the Coast Guard investigates the cargo ship collision.

I have more details but let’s leave the media some reporting instead of Your Favorite Anchorman giving minute detailsmon a tragic scenario.

Air Force Institute of Technology Citation.

Was sorting through some old files and found an unframed Citation from the United States Air Force Institute of Technology awarded to me in 1985.

This was after I had volunteered for and covered research into the Super Cooled Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) that measured flux and Josephson (junction) electromagnetic and other types of waves.

Sealed inside a thick concrete vault and seated in an equally insulated and isolated (very thick rubber bumpers) pilot type seat, the SQUID was directed towards my head to measure/graph brain waves.

I was instructed to view a series of colored light bulbs in an adjoining control room (also equally isolated and free from interference). As each bulb was lighted, my instructions were to concentrate on turning the bulb off. The SQUID was to detect the brain wave and make the bulb turn off based on replicating the same brain wave each time for the "off" function.

No words, no wires, just brain wave connectivity with the light bulbs. Turn the bulb(s) on. Turn the bulb(s) off by thought.

Other details I cannot discuss.

I can and did report on the purpose of the research. It was meant to free up a pilot in an advanced cockpit and next generation of fighter aircraft to train pilots and their electronics (imagine Ai) to use brain waves, some may consider it telepathy, to control certain aspects of either flight systems or armaments.

Lots of other fascinating research at that time by AFIT and some of the advanced directives at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and in the field at Eglin and Cleveland/NASA and others.

Some, like SQUID, were very interesting.

Have seen a lot of shares on this bogus myth lately…

The 823 Years Myth

If you have an email or a social media account, chances are that you have come across a viral post that claims an upcoming month has a rare combination of weekdays. Share it, the message states, or beware of some bad luck.

A recent version goes something like this:

December 2023 has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays. This happens only once every 823 years. The Chinese call it “silver pockets full” or “money bags.”

The email is partially correct. December 2023 does have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays. But this is neither special nor unusual. You won’t need to wait for another 823 years for this weekday combination to occur. (In fact, it doesn’t even happen in the year 2846, which is 823 years after the year 2023!)

A calendar month that contains 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays actually occurs nearly every year—March 2024, August 2025, and May 2026 all have the same weekday pattern.

Myth busted.

Internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor Geoffrey Smith has returned to The Florida Business Forum to share his amazing stories about nature and art.
