Over the past few years, it has been my privilege to serve as Editor-in-Chief of Fat City Feed, a platform dedicated to telling Stockton’s stories—stories of resilience, innovation, and the incredible people shaping our community.

Today, I’m thrilled to share that my journey in community journalism is taking an exciting step forward. I will be joining Stocktonia News to continue my mission of highlighting positive community news and advocating for students in our city.

At Fat City Feed, we built a space that uplifted local voices, informed our neighbors, and celebrated what makes Stockton special. That commitment remains unchanged as I transition to Stocktonia, where I’ll be able to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and continue championing the issues that matter most to our community—especially in education.

For our readers, this means the same dedication to local storytelling, the same passion for advocacy, and even greater opportunities to shine a light on the people and organizations making a difference. If you’ve followed my work at Fat City Feed, I hope you’ll join me at Stocktonia as we take this next step together.

Stockton deserves strong, independent journalism that not only informs but inspires. I can’t wait to continue this work with a team equally committed to keeping our community engaged and empowered. Stay tuned—there’s so much more ahead!

The Stockton Record released an inspiring story on Arturo Vera that fits right into the Stockton Heroes category. We’d love for you to enjoy this fellow Stocktonian and what he has to say. 👇

Per The Stockton Record:

Arturo Vera, 70, has been a part of the Stockton photography and art scene for more than 20 years and is something of a photographic renaissance man.

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, he and his family moved to the Bay Area when he was 17. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968. He first became interested in photography after buying his first camera while on tour. After being honorably discharged from the military, he enrolled in photography classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 1973, and it became his passion.

After he graduated in 1977, Vera’s first photo job was in a photo lab for a San Francisco company called Chartermasters shooting commercial photography. Not wanting to limit himself to just one genre of photography, he tried to excel in every aspect of it.

San Joaquin County law enforcement has announced that it will not assist in enforcing President Donald Trump’s recent federal immigration crackdown, aligning instead with California state law.

San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow and the Stockton Police Department stated that they will not participate in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids unless they involve criminal activity within their jurisdictions. The county is home to approximately 55,000 undocumented immigrants, and officials assured the community that law enforcement's priority remains public safety, not immigration status.

"We've been receiving a lot of questions and a lot of anxiety in certain parts of our community," Withrow said in a video posted to Facebook. He emphasized that his department's approach will remain unchanged. "Whether you're documented or undocumented, we care about good people in our community. We're going to go after bad people." There’s only a few more days left to experience the Stockton Lantern Festival’s breathtaking display, Koda’s Journey Through the Magic Ocean, which concludes on January 19, 2025, at the Stockton Ballpark.

This all-new interactive walking experience brings Koda’s dream of a vibrant underwater world to life, featuring stunning lantern displays of colorful fish, coral, and marine creatures.
