We had a lot of fun at the book launch event on Saturday! I loved sharing the stage with the incredibly talented Simona Fitcal, and the kids really seemed to love being rocks! 😄🪨 When reading the book, I love to lead the kids in actions that go along with the book (wiggling, jumping, being rocks).

A big thank you to Simona's husband Constantine for his sound system work, and a big thank you to my wife Lindsey for helping organize and execute both the event and the works in general!

It's been two weeks since my books launched!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳

I love all the pictures friends have been sending me of kids connecting with the book! Such a treasure. 🥰

I gifted a copy to my kids' daycare, and the teacher came up to me at pick up and said this: "The kids request your book ALL THE TIME. After reading it a hundred times, I finally got it today. The rock can't move, and the world moves around him. Even if he can't move, he can still be happy."

Anddddd, here's a glimpse of my other project! 🪨☀️ (Open for preorder—link in bio!)

Both my books come from conversations with my three-year-old—I love talking with my kids! Lindsey and I love telling our son stories at night. Personal stories, fairy tales, "spooky" stories, you name it. He just eats it up and shares them back.

One night about two years ago, I remember having one of those nights where it was just too late for stories. We had a late dinner, our son was overtired, and our bedtime routine had barely started. Our son had horrible eczema, and so every night we had to lather him from head to toe in lotion and then do it again vasciline. The second cycle was the hardest—try buttering a live fish!

It was on that too-late for stories night that our son shouted, "Tell me a story!" He said this whilst twirling in the living room.

Exhausted, I hugged him and told him I had a very short story for him. It was about a rock, who did not do much because it was a rock. It did not twirl. It did not jump up and down. It did not wiggle. Its favorite thing was doing nothing, because it was a rock. The End.

To my surprise, my kid whispered back in a worshipful tone, "That was a good story."

I grabbed for my pencil, and the first draft of "I Am a Rock" was born. This book is a calm story, but also a story of resilience. It's my celebration of being alive.

✨Sneak Peak + Story behind the book below!✨💃

About a year ago, my son came home from daycare and asked me, "Dad, can I wear a dress?"

The question made complete sense. The girls in his class wore big glittery dresses, the teachers peppered them with compliments, and my son loved Elsa and her ice powers.

I sat my son down and told him he could definitely wear a dress. To emphasize the point, I started counting people off with my fingers.

"Boys can wear dresses. Girls can wear dresses. Teachers, parents, grandma and grandpa can wear dresses. But there is one exception."

I pointed my finger for dramatic effect.

"OSTRICHES." I made my hand into an ostrich and started tickling him.

He loved it. After about three hours of asking for the same story, I knew there was something special here. I want my son to know that whatever he wants to wear, his daddy loves him.

Surprise! 😄 I'm revealing the cover of *two* books on Tuesday!

For this second book, I partnered with Simona Fitcal, a Romanian artist and fellow Stanford alum. Simona is an artistic chimera, with works ranging from animation to illustration to light displays. She received her MFA in Art Practice at Stanford University in 2016.

Simona will make her debut this year as a children's book illustrator! I love working with Simona. She is careful and calibrated about all her work—she sketched out at least 40 designs of the main character before we settled on one, and from there, she created another 20 stylistic variations for the work. Her love for the craft is evident on every page—every inch of this book has such beautiful color blends that I would feel happy just framing those!

I'm so excited to reveal the cover of our newest children's book on Tuesday!✨💃🏻

This children's book has been a year in the making, with months of concept art, storyboarding, revisions, and re-revisions. Through it all, Anna Wright has been a joy to work with! Anna has just the right mix of wackiness, professionalism, and vision to give this book legs (and feathers!). Throw in the gorgeously maximalist lettering by , and our story is ready to take flight—or, I suppose, run really really fast. 💨
