It Takes 100 Years

It Takes 100 Years Cathy Babis: Inspirational speaker, pilot, diver, adventurer, blogger, vlogger. STEM for everyone! That all changed when I answered a post on Facebook.

I've spent most of my life as an aviation professional in some capacity or other. I retired in 2018 and have traveled, reached 100 SCUBA dives, read good books, and enjoyed what I called, "a deliciously unscheduled life" where I was never in a hurry. David Geers was looking for someone to fly with him around Australia in his Searey amphibious airplane - the SAME type aircraft I trained in for my S

eaplane certificate! After a few emails, and a Zoom meeting, we became a team! This adventure of a lifetime is expected to take 60 days, include over 200 landings, and cover 18,000+Km/11,300+mi. I am available for speaking engagements, podcasts, and interviews to both speak about our upcoming adventure and to inspire people of all ages to never stop dreaming and to promote Aviation/STEM education.

Thanks so much to everyone who is following this page.

While the trip was happening, we shifted focus to the website, www.100asa.com.au for daily updates & maintaining the trip diary. If you click on the map of Australia, you can see the diary - I'm still adding photos to the diary - coming soon: adding photos & text for Kangaroo Island which will be before the Aldinga stop.

Since the trip ended on May 26th, I am shifting back to maintaining this page with a focus on the topics we promoted during the trip:
1. The value of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) education.
2. Diversity in all aviation occupations.
3. Our partnership with Roses in the Ocean, which has the goal of "Stemming the Tide of Su***de" founded by the family of a pilot who took his life. Www.rosesintheocean.com.au, an Australian nonprofit that is gaining recognition worldwide for its programs & practices.

A trip this long is not all roses & lollipops! We ran into a maintenance issue yesterday. Everything came together with David’s knowledge of his seaplane & technical skills. Here is our diary entry about it.

Follow my trip ‘Seaplane Adventure Around Australia’

Today after our scenic flight, which is on the step before this, we had a lot of oil on the back side of the airplane. We have had drops of oil before, but this was a lot more than before. David checked the oil level and we were extremely low on oil. After some investigation, he found that it was on...

A crabby story-the good kind!

We stayed at the End of the Road Motel. Last night we met the father/son duo who offered us 3 live crabs for dinner tonight (see video) that they collected this morning and were delivered by Mark’s wife, Julianne at 7:30am with cooking instructions! See pics for how to order from them. Another lon...

Small World!

This is actually our flight from Broome to Cygnet Bay. I never get tired of the beautiful Australian landscapes. The second picture is a picture of our shadow. Another seaplane was with us, Rohan, and at times he was only a half a mile or .7 of a kilometre, behind us. The fourth picture is a picture...
