Calling In_ Transforming Education for Neurodivergent Students.mp4
"Instead of calling out, I want to call people in."
Amanda Morin, Author and Consultant and I talked with Debbie Reber on the Tilt Parenting about our new book, "Neurodiversity-Affirming Schools," and I talked about breaking down barriers for educators supporting neurodivergent students. Our goal is to help teachers realize they’re already doing so much—and that small, meaningful changes can make a huge difference in the lives of their students.
Teaching isn’t about perfection; it’s about connection. If you’re an educator, parent, or advocate, this conversation is for you.

A lot has changed in the thirty-ish years since I was diagnosed with ADHD (ADD at the time). We've had two new DSMs released and our understanding of neurodivergence has shifted greatly - but we still have so much work to do! (Interesting that at the time I was diagnosed, not only was autism (Asperger's at that time) not in the DSM, but you couldn't even have both an ADHD and autism diagnosis until the DSM-5 in 2013. But, I digress!)
It is perfect that this book is released today on January 21 because it is also my mom's birthday. She was my first advocate and knew where to look and who to ask to have me evaluated - at a time before social media and the internet! Her resourcefulness and the self-understanding I've gained as someone lucky enough to have been given a diagnosis in childhood. That isn't to say I haven't internalized a ton of ableism along the way that I'm constantly finding when I'm least expecting it - but those experiences are what have pushed me to create this new book.
Big kudos to my amazing co-author, Amanda Morin, Author and Consultant, of course, too! Neurodiversity Podcast
Navigating Neurodivergence_ Acknowledging the Challenges.mp4
You ever feel like we’re living in this “neurodiversity moment”? People are finally talking about how their brains work—at work, at school, and everywhere in between.
Amanda Morin, Author and Consultant and I kicked off Episode 1 of our new podcast, Creating Neurodiversity-Affirming Schools, by asking, "Why now? Why is this happening, and how can schools actually keep up with what we’re learning about diverse brains?"
Honestly, it’s because people like us—neurodivergent adults—are finally speaking up and saying, “This matters.”
Give it a listen if this resonates with you. Would love to hear your thoughts!

How Can We Improve Our Response Skills in Class? 🤔📚
Let's be honest: We all have our own triggers for when a student shows certain "behaviors" in class. For me, it is when a student looks at me after I've explained something multiple times in multiple ways and says, "I don't get it," without any type of clarifying question or information for me to build on. Yours might be the student who interrupts when you are talking with an off-topic question or the student who asks repeatedly through the day how much longer until lunch time. Whatever it is, we need to be cautious about making sure that we are responding to what is actually happening, instead of listening to our immediate knee-jerk reaction.
In this Educator Hub Expert Webinar, Amanda Morin, Author and Consultant shares about the difference.
