Good morning Queens and kings!
A reminder to all, keep fighting the good fight!
Don’t allow anyone to distract you from your goals in sobriety. No one ever said it’s going to be easy. After 30 plus years I have to remain vigilant and smart and know who is in my team. Sometimes your team is yourself and that’s okay!
You first!
Stay sober
You matter!

How do you say no to your 35-year-old son who is a drug addict and alcoholic and very demanding? I have no money left to give him. I need to focus on myself.
With any addict/alcoholic you are NOT HELPING THEM by giving them money. LET HIM FALL. It is only when the addict FEELS the consequences of their behavior that they MAY seek help for the problem

You have been enabling him. Don’t worry. You are in good company. And I understand this is your son. But PLEASE STOP.

You also need support in all this. There is a great group of people who are in your situation called Al-Anon. There are meetings all over the place. If you choose to go, you will feel supported.

You can use the exact words I just used when explaining this to him. That you are not willing any longer to enable him to remain in his addiction. BUT YOU MUST MEAN IT. DO NOT BACK DOWN. Addicts are some of the most clever people in the world in getting what they want. And, just an FYI, do not allow him anywhere near your house. If he is there, then kick him out. He will steal from you to get money.

Please believe that you are actually helping him.

You could also stage an intervention with other friends/family members. And leave him no choice than to go to rehab.

Good luck
For all that struggles…..
