CHINA HAS THE POWER TO TURN THE GRID OFF

If you have been watching the intel for a few years now you would see a strategy that would blow your mind.

It starts with the "Secret speech of General Chi Haotian" describing how China would invade or "colonize" the U.S.

Our research has put together the 388,000 acres of farmland land China owns (NPR), the ports they own, Chinese secret police stations that we know of, Wall Street Journals 100 instances of incursions onto miltary bases, Property that China owns next to Military bases like Fairchild AFB, in Cheney where a team did a recon and found a burried cargo conatiner.

Nw we have added the many utility company's that have brought in Chinese transformers (pictured in red pins), to show when you overlap all these together it paints a stark picture. In a video done by Seth Holehouse who has a Rumble chanel called "Man in America", a link to federal documents were given. Then the research began. Looking at these utility companies and the service area was shocking. Some cover known military bases like Camp Pendleton in San Diego. There is a nearby port owned by China a secret police station and many instances of Chinese men entering bases at 29 palms, Camp pendelton a couple times and recently 2 navy sailors were charged with spying for China.

When you look at other areas like New York, Galveston/Houston area it is the same. In Florida where Florida power and light is, the service area encompasses most of the state. Incursions have been recorded at Madill AFB, CENTCOM, Cape Canaveral as well. In DOJ, CISA, and FBI bulletins they all say the same thing. China would like to slow down the movement of Troops and logistics with and when the invasion of Taiwan happens. The hacker group Volt Typhoon has also been active not only in Guam and Hawaii but here in the states conducting cyber warfare on systems. The DOD told the NY times that they are certain China has implanted malware into it's systems. Politico and many Tech publications have talked about the damage Volt Typhoon has done as well as Fox news.

The big question for the Pacific Northwest is how far will Oregon, Idaho and Washington be effected? Bangor, Fairchild AFB and JBLM are for cetain targets but the question is how much of the grid is comprimised? Most of the utility companys in some way connect to Bonnerville power. We know from our research Rocky mountain power , whose listed as brining in these Chinese transformers covers Wyoming, South East Idaho, including Twin Falls and Northern Utah. We also know Yakima, Sunnyside, Dayton, Walla Walla, Vantage, Grays Harbor and Vantage all in Washinton state are all comprimised by these Chinese transformers through Paciccorp and Invenergy Inc.

WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE BE DOING?

people need to start preparing for the possibilty that portions of this country or some cities might expierence a grid down scenario.
Words matter! If we are to take serious everything that China is doing and their own words such as, "Solving the America issue will solve our Taiwan issue" Then they will have to simultaneously or preemptively do something. Analysts like Gordon Chang, Jeffrey Nyquist and Frank Gaffney say the same thing. China next big oppurtunity will be the October range, that is when the straight of Taiwan are calm and possible for a invsion. The question is do they strike now while Biden is in office? or wait for a possible Trump victory?

30,000 CHINESE NATIONALS ENTER THE U.S.

If you have read "The Secret Speech of General Chi Haotian, you
would know what is coming

Today, the House Committee on Homeland Security released its “Startling Stats” factsheet detailing the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) border encounter numbers for March of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. Last month marked the halfway point for the fiscal year and the third worst March in decades at the Southwest border

So far in FY24, 24,376 Chinese nationals have been encountered at the Southwest border, 24,214 of them apprehended illegally crossing the border. Encounters of Chinese nationals in March 2024 increased over 8,000 percent compared to March 2021, and have surpassed all of last fiscal year––just six months into FY24. March also marked a historic high for encounters along the busiest sector of the northern border, the Swanton Sector, which saw a nearly 50-percent increase compared to the previous March, and more than a 2,000-percent increase compared to March of FY21. More than 1,000 Chinese nationals have crossed the northern border every month for the past five months.

The potential national security implications of this unprecedented influx are concerning, as a Chinese national in the U.S. illegally breached a military base in California and refused to leave on March 29. Unfortunately, reports from last year revealed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ DHS had instructed Border Patrol agents to drastically reduce the number of vetting questions for Chinese nationals in order to more quickly process these aliens into the interior––potentially putting our homeland security at risk. According to Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez in her transcribed interview with the Committee in September 2023, in order to interview and process Chinese nationals, her sector “had to go through a translation service. That translation service took about six to seven hours to interview a Chinese national. So that was very tasking on our end.”

According to CBP data, nationwide encounters at just ports of entry (107,298) have increased 375 percent compared to FY21. This drastic increase in encounters highlights Secretary Mayorkas’ willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law through his unlawful use of mass parole for otherwise inadmissible aliens.

“Secretary Mayorkas’ willful and systemic refusal to comply with the laws of the United States and his breach of the public trust continue to incentivize a record number of inadmissible aliens to flock to our borders, putting themselves in harm’s way and straining our Border Patrol agents and Custom and Border Protection officers on the frontlines of the crisis,” Chairman Green said last week.“Among these encounters were more Chinese nationals, totaling more in the first six months of this fiscal year than in all of Fiscal Year 2023.

“Nationwide encounters continue to tell the story of this administration’s brazen and unlawful use of mass-parole to funnel unprecedented numbers of otherwise inadmissible aliens into communities across this country through ports of entry, forcing taxpayers to bear the overwhelming cost. The American people continue to demand accountability from the individual responsible for this crisis—Secretary Mayorkas.”

Key Facts:

Since President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas took office, there have been 9.2 million encounters nationwide and over 7.6 million encounters at the Southwest border alone.
In March, CBP, including Air and Marine Operations (AMO), seized 1,392 pounds of fentanyl coming across the Southwest border, bringing the total for the fiscal year to 9,657 pounds—enough to kill roughly 2 billion people.
Since January 2023, 547,000 individuals have scheduled appointments with the CBP One app.
Since the program began, 404,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans have been mass paroled under the administration’s CHNV parole program at ports of entry nationwide.
In March 2024, 6 more individuals whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were stopped trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border between ports of entry. Since FY21, 357 of these individuals have been caught crossing our Southwest border illegally.
March marked the highest monthly total of northern border encounters so far in FY24 (16,238).

RED ALERT WERE ALREADY AT WAR WITH CHINA.....

China's vast army of hackers are waging a cyber war on the West to pave the way for a new world order, a top MP has warned.

In a stark warning, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith said: "This is a war and we are losing it." It comes as GCHQ revealed that China is the intelligence agency's top priority as it "poses a genuine and increasing cyber-risk to the UK".

Anne Keast-Butler, the agency's director, accused Beijing of "working with others to try and reshape the world". UK government officials fear China stole names and bank details of Britain's entire armed forces in an epic hack - and accused Beijing of hacking the Electoral Commission.

Some 270,000 people including regular troops, reservists and some veterans have been affected by the hack on the Ministry of Defence's payroll system.Defence officials refused to name the country or hackers behind the attack - but insiders suspect China.

Amid the crisis, Mr Duncan Smith said the suspected Chinese attack is just the tip of the iceberg - with Beijing waging a colossal cyber war on the West. The 70-year-old warned China is "trying to break down the West" - and it's just the beginning. Speaking to The Sun, he said: "This is China - the second largest economy in the world, the second largest military. It plans to take over America.

"They are very significant players now. They want to make sure the world is run in their way of thinking. "This is the just the beginning of what is essentially a war. "It's a cyber war at present, but who knows. If Russia wins in Ukraine, China will take Taiwan. The nature of China's threat grows. "If they can confuse us, make us unsure, disinform us, create division, then that plays well to their plans. China is working constantly to undermine us. This is the reality of what's happening.

"It's to get as much information as they can by hacking us, find out what we're up to, and counter anything that we do and make sure we're constantly fighting this rather than doing anything in return."

He added: "If you push anyone inside the security services, they will tell you China is at war with us. "They see us as a legitimate target and they want to go after us. And that's what they are doing.
"It's time to call China a threat. It's time to take action, it's time to invest more. This is a war and we are just losing it.

"The UK is worried about pushing China too hard. They think they have business interests in China which may be affected, so I think there's a hesitancy." Echoing GCHQ's warning, Mr Duncan Smith said China is building a "new axis of authoritarian states".
And their "purpose is to break the hold that the free world has over key institutions and ability to function", he claims.

"Those powers are China, North Korea, Russia and Iran," Mr Duncan Smith said. "[Xi] wants to see all countries adopting China's form of strong, centralised unelected government." Addressing the CyberUK conference, GCHQ's Keast-Butler said China poses "a significant risk to international norms and values through their coercive and destabilising actions".

She said Beijing's "irresponsible actions" were "weakening the security of the internet", The Times reports. "China has built an advanced set of cyber-capabilities and is taking advantage of a growing commercial ecosystem of hacking outfits and data brokers at its disposal," she said. "China poses a genuine and increasing cyber-risk to the UK. "The PRC is looking to shape global technology standards in its own favour, seeking to assert its dominance within the next ten to fifteen years."

Speaking in March, Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden also warned there was a "clear pattern of hostile activity from China".
The Ministry of Defence cyberattack came less than two months after China's "state-affiliated actors" were blamed by the government for two "malicious" cyberattack campaigns in the UK.
And this year, the US revealed that a Chinese hacking network known as Volt Typhoon had infiltrated the country’s critical infrastructure for as long as five years. FBI director Christopher Wray described the group as “the defining threat of our generation”.

EYEING UP TAIWAN

Beyond the West, experts have warned China is waging a relentless secret cyber war on Taiwan to pave the way for a full-scale invasion.
Beijing has long used Taiwan as a testing ground for its cyber warfare capabilities - but attacks have been increasing at an unprecedented rate. According to Taiwanese parliament member Wang Ting-Yu, the island is hit by a whopping 20million cyber attacks every day - and Chinese hackers are responsible for the majority of them.

In a chilling warning in November, former Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said the island was "facing mounting military intimidation, grey-zone campaigns, cyber attacks and information manipulation"
And analysts fear China's escalating cyber warfare is setting the stage for an all-out invasion of Taiwan - which Beijing regards as part of its territory. Kitsch Yen-Fan, the assistant director for the Global China Hub at the Atlantic Council, warned "we are already at war". "This is a constant thing," he told 60 Minutes.

"Fake news on social media is a way for [China] to pave the way for their eventual operation.

"They want to basically sway public opinions, demoralise the public, to make their eventual takeover that much easier, which is actually what the Russians were trying to do in Ukraine."

China has vowed to take Taiwan by force if necessary - carrying out ever more regular invasion rehearsals.

Taiwan insists it is an independent nation after splitting from China in 1949.

Cyber attacks escalated dramatically before the Taiwanese elections in January.

Last year, 7-Eleven stores were hacked to display the message, "Get out of Taiwan".

And data shows that attacks spiked ahead of Pelosi's visit to the small island in the summer of 2022.

At a train station in the port city of Kaohsiung, digital signs were hacked to call Pelosi "an old witch".

CYBER ATTACK SPIKE

Anne An, manager of threat intelligence analysis at Trellix, said China's malicious activities "have demonstrated a higher level of stealth and sophistication in evading detection".
An told The Sun: "China's cyberattacks on Taiwan have grown in both frequency and sophistication in recent years.

"Throughout 2023, political tensions in the Taiwan Strait have also sparked periodic spikes in cyber threat activities targeting Taiwan.
"Throughout the course of the previous six months, Trellix telemetry has recorded an uptick in malicious activity targeting Taiwan by China-associated APT groups, ranging from eight detections per day to over 800 detections per day during the peak period. "Based on our data, top attack tools leveraged against Taiwan include China Chopper and Cobalt Strike.

t recently in early 2024, Trellix observed another significant spike in cyber threat activity targeting Taiwan's financial organisations, local police departments, and government offices ahead of its presidential election. "These malicious activities have demonstrated a higher level of stealth and sophistication in evading detection, discovery, and establishing command and control.

"Over the past 12 months in the global context, Trellix has observed a drastic increase in threat activity from China-affiliated APT groups, rising from 8,000 daily detections in January 2023 to over 150,000 detections in January 2024." Cybersecurity experts at Google noted a "massive increase" in Chinese cyber attacks on Taiwan last year.

Kate Morgan, senior engineering manager in Google’s Threat Analysis Division, told Bloomberg that Google is tracking close to 100 hacking groups out of China. Kate, who monitors government-sponsored hacking campaigns, said hackers are going "after everything" - including government, private companies and defence organisations. "The number of groups in China that are performing hacking and trying to get into technology companies or get into cloud customers is huge," she said.

According to Cloudflare, cyber attacks designed to overwhelm and crash networks in Taiwan reached new levels last year, spiking 3,370 per cent — a more than thirty fold increase since the previous year.
A Fortinet study said Taiwan faced up to 15,000 cyber attacks every second in the first half of 2023 - an increase of 80 per cent compared to the same period in 2022.

"The number and types of attacks China wages against Taiwan are very different from what they deploy to other nations," James Turgal, former FBI Executive Assistant Director of Information and Technology, told Politico. Turgal called it an “embarrassment campaign", where China infiltrates systems to post degrading statements that make Taipei look bad.

"You basically manipulate and take over the website and put up anti-Taiwan statements on government sites that are forward-facing — which is a type of attack you don’t see against US interests," he said. You saw a lot of those just before Russia entered Ukraine." Roy Chun Lee, Taiwan’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, told Politico: "Every day there are attempts to find loopholes and backdoors in our system."

CHINESE MIGRANTS COMING OVER THE US BORDER DO HAVE LINKS TO THE COMMUNIST PARTY

Border Patrol chief warned Homeland Security committee about influx of Chinese migrants 'with links to CCP' in closed-door meeting LAST YEAR

More than 24,000 Chinese migrants crossed US borders illegally in 2023, compared to just 342 in 2021 - making them the fastest-growing illegal entries

The DailyMail revealed that border chiefs warned the Homeland Security Committee last year that they were concerned they could be letting in CCP spies

Meanwhile, startling data has revealed that more illegal Chinese migrants are granted asylum than any other nationality, raising concerns that more will follow

A US Border Patrol chief has warned that his agents are being overwhelmed by the flood of Chinese migrants crossing the border illegally and that they could be missing Communist spies, DailyMail can reveal.

More than 24,000 Chinese migrants crossed US borders illegally in fiscal year 2023, compared to around 2,000 in 2022 and just 342 in 2021 - making them the fastest-growing demographic of illegal entries.

Some have been found to have links with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated People's Liberation Army (PLA), but border chiefs are concerned more could be slipping through their grasp.

Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Good, of the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector, told the Homeland Security Committee during a private hearing in September last year that his agents were 'trying their best to figure out why [individuals from other continents are] coming' but that 'information can be hidden' and 'their agendas, their ideologies, the reason for them coming could be missed'.

Gloria Chavez, chief patrol agent for the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector, also told the Committee in June that the massive surge in Chinese migrants had forced her agents to enlist a translation service, with each Chinese national taking up to seven hours to interview.

The interviews were shared with DailyMail by the committee.

Its chair, Mark Green, said the surge in Chinese migrants was a 'massive' national security concern.

He said agents were being 'overwhelmed', with many Chinese nationals being 'released into the interior with little consideration for their country of origin'.

Green blamed Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas for making it 'clear to the entire world that our borders are open'.

He added: 'While it is true that some individuals may be seeking relief from authoritarian regimes, there is no way for our brave men and women on the frontlines of this crisis to adequately vet all of them before being effectively forced to release them—particularly when countries like China won’t allow us access to their various law enforcement databases.

'My Committee has been informed that some of these Chinese nationals have even been found to be affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)—and those are just the ones we’ve been able to vet.

'As the CCP works to undermine and infiltrate our institutions and even military installations, Secretary Mayorkas has made it clear to the entire world that our borders are open.

'This is simply unsustainable, and the national security risks are massive.'

The surprise explosion in crossings by Chinese migrants has sparked fevered speculation over why so many are suddenly making the arduous journey from East Asia, with some commentators suggesting Beijing may be smuggling in some as spies.

But immigration experts have said they thought it unlikely that the CCP would send in agents in this manner, suggesting Xi Jinping would prefer a more direct route using work visas - as has been the case in the past.

Links to the CCP and PLA are common among Chinese citizens and do not necessarily mean they are operating as spies.

Meanwhile, startling US government data has revealed that more illegal Chinese migrants were granted asylum over the past three years than any other nationality, raising concerns that more will be encouraged to follow.

In 2022, Chinese nationals accounted for 14 percent of all successful 'defensive' asylum claims.

These claims are so-called because they are made by those defending themselves from deportation proceedings, so would include migrants who have crossed the border illegally.

China also tops the table for all types of successful asylum claims, with 13 percent of all approved applications.

That is despite the Chinese being responsible for just 1 percent of all border encounters that year.

Around two-thirds of Chinese asylum claims were successful between 2001 and 2021, the third highest success rate of any country, according to the analysis of Immigration Court records by Syracuse University.

Last year, the figure was 55 percent.

Compounding matters is Beijing's refusal to repatriate its citizens when their asylum claims are rejected.

A former assistant secretary of state told DailyMail that Beijing would often deny that the migrants were indeed Chinese.

The US is powerless in these situations.

Experts are warning that the high success rate of Chinese migrants claiming asylum - coupled with Beijing's refusal to take them back if they fail - is acting as a 'green light' to many considering taking their chances on the border.

Rebecca Grant, Ph.D., a national security analyst at IRIS Independent Research, said the 'historically high rate of accepting claims from China' coupled with Beijing's record of blocking repatriation acted as a 'huge green light' for migrants.

Grant also raised questions over its implications for national security.

'I want to know who these people are and why they're here,' she told DailyMail. 'The prevailing narrative is that China has got economic problems; these are economic migrants.

'Let's say 90 percent of them are. They should still come in legally, so I'm not in favor in any case.

'But the really worrying part is our adversaries see this gaping hole on the southern border because of the huge loopholes that the Biden administration allows.

'Of course, China may take advantage of that.'

Beijing has a track record of using citizens working in the US to steal trade secrets from American companies, plundering everything from technology that can be used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons to genetically modified seeds.

Grant suggested that the CCP may try to exploit America's porous border by smuggling in a handful of spies among the hundred-plus daily crossings.

But Michele Thoren Bond, a former assistant secretary of state, said this was unlikely.

'It would be a pretty random way to place your agents,' she said, adding that Beijing would likely favor a more direct method of infiltration.

Economic espionage has previously been carried out by Chinese citizens with US visas.

Bond did, however, hit out at the Chinese government for its obstruction of repatriation efforts.

She said that when she acted as Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs in the Obama administration, China was unwilling to take back its citizens.

'They said: "Well we don't know if they're Chinese".

'If somebody has been issued a US passport, we have a photo recognition program that enables us to take a photo of that person and run it through our system and see if we get a hit.

'Now, the Chinese do a lot more with ID in their population than we do.

'So, it is simply not credible for them to say, "Gosh, we have no way of knowing if these people are Chinese".'

Former immigration judge Paul Schmidt told DailyMail that the reasons for the high success rate of Chinese asylum claims were threefold.

Historically, it is a hangover from congressional legislation that granted asylum to families fleeing China's One Child policy.

Chinese migrants are also rarely unrepresented, with most arriving 'lawyered up', Schmidt added, while Xi Jinping's repressive rule also gave strong grounds for asylum claims to be accepted.

He agreed with Bond's assertion that the border was an unlikely route into the US for Chinese spies but added that it was not without concern.

'There's a lot of reason to be suspicious of some of the things the Chinese government does,' he said. 'The Chinese government is out for the Chinese government.'

Most Chinese migrants seeking a new life in the US usually first fly into Ecuador, where they do not need a visa.

Then they pay smugglers to take them through the dangerous jungle between Colombia and Panama to the US, just like hundreds of thousands of other migrants from Central and South America.

It is thought the sudden spike in Chinese nationals heading to the US is part of an exodus from the country sparked by draconian Covid restrictions and the repressive regime of Xi Jinping.

THE DAY THE DOLLAR DIES?

Since roughly the last year of World War II, the U.S. dollar has enjoyed what one-time French finance minister Valéry Giscard d’Estaing once called the “exorbitant privilege” of being the world’s reserve currency. It’s had that position since roughly 1944 when it seized the role of the world’s currency hegemon from the British pound sterling.

But now, that standing is threatened by a whole variety of U.S. policies and assaults by our foreign adversaries. And the results for the dollar—and the people of the United States—could be catastrophic.

HOW WE GOT HERE

By July 1944, it had become clear that Allied advances over the N***s in Europe all but ensured the Allies, and particularly the United States, would dominate the postwar world. It was then that 730 delegates from 44 countries convened at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, to reestablish the postwar global monetary order.

Together, they agreed to a multinational system whereby global currencies would be convertible to the U.S. dollar at fixed exchange rates that could be modified, if necessary, within a very narrow band. The dollar, in turn, would be convertible to gold at $35 an ounce. It was left to the United States to ensure that the dollar/gold exchange rate remained stable.

But by 1971, social welfare spending on Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society,’’ the Vietnam War, and dollar investment in overseas businesses, factories, and other assets, as well as the balance of payments deficits resulting from imports from more fully recovered Japan and Europe, had greatly expanded the number of dollars in global circulation. U.S. officials recognized the nation’s gold reserves were insufficient to honor its commitment to convert the dollar into gold at $35 an ounce. That year, Europeans started converting small amounts of their dollar for gold. Then, the British asked for a “guarantee” of the dollars they held in reserve.

A currency crisis was brewing. And the United States needed to circumvent it before it happened.

So in August 1971, President Richard Nixon, at the urging of his advisers, convened a secret meeting at Camp David over three days, concluding on Aug. 15, a Sunday. That evening, the president announced to the world in a nationally telecast statement a purported “temporary” closing of the gold window—prohibiting conversion of dollar to gold—to stop any run on U.S. gold reserves. That “temporary” closing lasted until 1975, when a meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), another legacy of Bretton Woods, approved a “managed” or “dirty float” of currencies at a conference in Jamaica. The IMF was to operate to maintain stability via some ambiguous “guardrails,” at least nominally, but central banks—including the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, Bank of Japan, et al.—were able to intervene to support their respective currencies.

The dollar was—finally and officially—off the gold standard and was now a “fiat currency”—meaning the dollar had value in the United States simply because the government said it did.

But in other countries, after President Nixon closed the gold window, the U.S. dollar became, with other currencies, essentially a commodity. If you wanted to buy U.S. property or securities or acquire U.S. products, you needed to obtain dollars to pay for them. Since the dollar had been overvalued by its link to gold, closing the gold window caused the dollar’s value to decline and inflation to increase.

To ameliorate some of the decline, President Nixon’s Treasury Secretary, William Simon, made a secret deal with Saudi Arabia in 1974 whereby the United States agreed to sell arms and give protection to the House of Saud in exchange for the Saudis investing their U.S. dollar reserves from oil sales in U.S. Treasurys instead of some other “hard” asset.

Oil had been traded in U.S. dollars almost everywhere since the Lucas Gusher at the Spindletop oil field in east Texas was discovered in 1901. The Saudis explicitly guaranteed to maintain the pricing of their oil sales in U.S. dollars. The 1974 arrangement with the Saudis helped the United States to run government budget deficits, and to improve its balance of payments deficit, as well as to maintain the global demand for the dollar, termed “petrodollars” after the Saudi deal, because any country that wanted to buy oil had to buy U.S. dollars to buy it.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

In 1974, when Secretary Simon arranged his deal with the Saudis to avoid a “dollar crisis,” our national debt was roughly 32 percent of GDP. We were winding down our decades-long involvement in Vietnam and Southeast Asia and had secured a detente with Cold War adversaries China and the Soviet Union.

Today, the United States is over $34 trillion in debt, around 120 percent of our GDP—more than it was even during World War II. A bit over $7 trillion of that—the value of the entire U.S. annual budget—is held by foreigners. We are on our way to $1 trillion a year in debt service, more than our defense budget. And the $10 your grandmother stuck in your birthday card that was lost in the commotion of your birthday party in 1971 would, if found today, be worth $1.20.

And in the world, the United States is engaged in escalating conflicts with two powerful, nuclear-armed, adversaries, China and Russia, as well as the war Iran’s terrorist proxy, Hamas, is waging on our ally, Israel.

-Citing three current and former U.S. officials, NBC News reported that China’s leader Xi Jinping boldly told the U.S. president that he intends to acquire Taiwan, a vital interest of the United States. Not only do we (and the rest of the world) get most of our chips from Taiwan, but 50 percent of the world’s maritime container traffic passes through the Taiwan Strait.

-The Ukraine-Russia war continues and has escalated in the last few days with no end in sight. In a conflict where U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has pledged American prestige by asserting in October that we will “deliver what it takes, for as long as it takes, so that Ukraine can live in freedom.” But just last month, President Biden seemingly walked back his commitment by saying the United States will back Ukraine “as long as we can.”

-U.S. Navy forces deployed to the Red Sea to protect shipping and deter Iranian belligerence against Israel were attacked by Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen. Scores of U.S. armed services members have been injured in Iraq and Syria in similar attacks.
Within our own borders, violent protests that went unchecked after the death of George Floyd, the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, and the Marxist-inspired pro-Hamas protests have rattled the sense of American stability among foreigners more than at any time since the Vietnam War.

Given all that, it should not be a surprise that other countries are moving to de-dollarize their holdings. The world has growing concerns about the stability of the United States and our ability to meet our debt obligations. The Saudis, whom we have relied upon for 50 years to help maintain demand for the U.S. dollar as the world’s global reserve currency, had announced that they are joining the BRICS, the international coalition of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates joined on the same day.

Were that not enough, now the Biden administration is contemplating a policy that cannot help but exacerbate de-dollarization. According to the Financial Times, the United States and the G-7 “are actively exploring ways to seize Russian central bank assets” in their countries to fund Ukraine because political opposition to continuing Ukraine support in the United States and Europe threatens the flow of money that has kept Ukraine afloat. The paper reported it had seen a document written by the United States that said, under international law, “G7 members and other specially affected states could seize Russian sovereign assets as a countermeasure to induce Russia to end its aggression.”

Robert Schiller, the Nobel Prize-winning Yale economist, reportedly told Italian news outlet La Repubblica in an interview published Sunday that he warned against the tactic. “[T]his will be confirmation for the Russian leader that what is happening in Ukraine is a proxy war [and] it could paradoxically turn against America and the entire West,” Mr. Schiller said. He warned it could create “a cataclysm for the current dollar-dominated economic system” because it would sow doubt among other countries that their investments in U.S. Treasurys, markets, and financial institutions could be seized by the United States in a political dispute.

America’s “exorbitant privilege” has allowed us to roll up extraordinary levels of debt in exchange for, basically, IOUs we’ve given to our creditors. And given our level of debt and particularly our debt-to-GDP ratio, our trading partners are now questioning our ability to repay it, the same as any other creditor.

In addition to this fiscal environment, malicious actors from foreign countries seeking to undermine the United States for their own geopolitical advantage, particularly China, are actively pursuing efforts to subvert the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Part of their strategy is to close trade in their own currencies.

SUMMARY

The U.S. dollar is under assault by the global market. While we continue to enjoy the largest, most transparent, and best-regulated capital markets in the free world, and the largest per capita consumer market, the other elements of dollar supremacy are eroding. Its status as the world’s reserve currency—its “exorbitant privilege”—is unlikely to last into the next decade. That will have enormous negative consequences for American citizens for the latter decades of this century. Interest rates needed to fund our debt will soar, closing out other alternative, productive investments in businesses and innovation.

Congress must absolutely get a handle on our spending to make vigorous, real, reductions and have the courage to raise taxes principally on its own donor class so that we get to a balanced budget no later than 2030. To grow our way out of debt as we did our World War II debt, we must make our nation more productive and more resilient. That means graduating more chemical engineers and computer scientists and fewer social workers and grievance studies graduates. It means fiercely protecting our technology and re-shoring high-value-added manufacturing. It means making smart policy choices, across the board, to keep our people healthier, our children far better educated, and much more physically fit to reduce healthcare costs. And we need to ensure our family structures and institutions are more resilient so that charities and families—not governments—support our most challenged citizens.

If we don’t, we will come to the day the dollar dies—and with it, the republic.
