Why are some people deliberately infected with diseases? Human challenge trials are when volunteers are deliberately infected with diseases to help find vaccines or cures. In this episode of The Evidence, Claudia’s expert panel, including Chris Chiu of Imperial College London, Shobana Balasingham of Wellcome and Kondwani Jambo of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine look at what these trials have accomplished, how safe they are, and the long and oftentimes complicated history behind the practice.

Democrat Carmela Conroy conceded to Republican Michael Baumgartner in the race to succeed Cathy McMorris Rodgers as eastern Washington's U.S. House member. In the Fourth District, incumbent Republican Dan Newhouse held a narrow lead over intraparty challenger Jerrod Sessler. And Maria Cantwell appears headed to re-election.

Democrat Carmela Conroy conceded to Republican Michael Baumgartner in eastern Washington, while incumbent Dan Newhouse had a narrow lead over intraparty challenger Jerrod Sessler in central Washington.

Singer-songwriter Frankie Ghee of Around the Piano/Character Building Songs for Teens and Preteens stopped by the Spokane Public Radio performance studio today ahead of her performance at this weekend's KPBX Kids' Concert: Gather Around the piano. Join Spokane Public Radio this Saturday, November 4, from 1-2 PM in the SFCC Music Building Auditorium for Frankie's character-building session of group singing and discussion. She’ll highlight music as a tool for communication, expression, preserving culture, and improving health and wellbeing.
