The following plays from the “Stack” offense can be run to either side of the floor. Both series require that your players pay close attention to setting and using screens. It’s imperative that the player coming off the screen must read the defense and make the correct cut.

Our team runs a three-out, two-in high-low motion offense as our base offense. Our most successful entry has been the “Up” entry. There are several fundamental moves that make this entry successful.

Our team began running a five-man, open-post motion offense, and each season our offensive production increased. Our offense averaged 85 to 94 points per game, was ranked in the top 10 nationally in NJCAA Division III, and we won the 2004 state championship.

Designed to attack 1-2-2 zone defenses, it’s also effective vs. 1-3-1 zones and man-to-man defenses. The Bomber can be taught and implemented in a short period of time. It’s most effective when you have good shooting forwards and centers.

“Bomber” is a quick-hitting offense that produces open 10- to 15-foot shots but can easily be extended to the 3-point arc.

This may be too ‘hands-off’ for some coaches and I never in a million years thought I would be saying this, but the BEST BLOB PLAY IS NO BLOB PLAY!

The players started to communicate on BLOB situations like they never had before coming up with simple ways to get shots.

While halftime does not offer an excessive amount of time in terms of minutes, it is the time period most needed to help coaches bring about these adjustments. This time must also be used efficiently.

It may not but a long period, but halftime needs to be used by coaches for to make adjustments efficiently.

During practice or summer camps take a four-minute break to teach and review important games and fundamental situations. Many times, we, as coaches, assume that our players know many different game situations. Believe me, they don’t.

Whether it's during practice or a basketball camp, incorporating these four-minute coaching sessions can help increase situational awareness.

The most full-proof way to be unscoutable scheme-wise is to not run a set or play. If your players are just playing good, fundamental basketball, there is nothing discount. It is easy to get caught up in a game and long to control every position. But if you have made an effort to teach your players how to play the game, instead of how to do a play, it is a valuable weapon.

You may find that being unscoutable is an enjoyable part of running your basketball program you never thought about.

This is a great drill to either begin or finish practices. The object of the drill is to make 12 consecutive layups without the ball touching the floor or committing a turnover.

The drill involves two teams, each with five players (coaches can run this drill 4-on-4 if they like). One ball is used, and the coach starts with the ball positioned anywhere on the perimeter.

This system works well enough that we now use it as our press-breaker. Instead of a rebounder, we have an inbounder. All other positions operate the same. Often, this transition beats a press down the floor before it can set up. There are a few other advantages to utilizing this system.

We’ve successfully developed and implemented a system of transition offense that’s unconventional and tough for opponents to defend.
