I tell my diverse technologists this all the time:
People wanna hear about your passions, not just your tech skills.
So, I’ll go first! Let’s get to know Dr. T. 🧑🏾💻

Cooking has always been my escape. (If you watch my YouTube series, CodeSnax, you already know this!)
Since I was 4, I’ve been in the kitchen, cooking up meals to take care of my family after my mom got sick.
When she passed away, I ended up taking care of everyone at just 5 years old.
Back then, cooking was all about survival.
→ These days, it’s my therapy.
After long coding sessions, I find peace in making gumbo and chilling on my deck.
I slow down.
I cook gumbo — a dish that ties me to my Creole, Jamaican, and Guatemalan roots.
As I stir the pot, I slow my mind.
I remember where I came from.
The fresh air on the patio helps me keep work stress separate from my personal space.
With every step, I remember the importance of taking care of myself.
This ritual is my escape.
It shows me that joy and peace are out there beyond the tech grind.
I want YOU to find your escape, too.
• Create your own rituals for relaxation.
• Separate your work and personal spaces.
• Find joy in the simple things.
