Powder-containing packages were sent to secretaries of state and state election offices in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

It marked the second time in the past year that suspicious packages were mailed to election officials in multiple state offices.

A pipeline explosion near Houston erupted in a towering flame over neighborhoods for hours on Monday, forcing evacuations and shelter orders and melting playground equipment as firefighters struggled to keep nearby homes from burning.

The fire began at 9:55 a.m. in La Porte, located about 25 miles southwest of Houston. Some homes caught fire.
