The beauty of the Northern Plains along Hwy 44 in western South Dakota.
Heading back to Sioux Falls South Dakota from Rosebud Indian Reservation, I crossed this valley at golden hour. To sit in the grass and breathe this moment in was surreal.
During my growing up years, my Dad put up hay and hauled it to farmers and ranchers. We traveled South Dakota and the surrounding states without a screen in front of our faces; kids forced to observe the countryside. As an adult I now can't help but drive the hwys instead of interstates, to see the land, the sky and the rural communities that are so easily missed.
