Forestburg Melons? Don't miss Larson Melon Market on Hwy 37 south of Huron. This is an "on the way home from the fair" traditional stop for myself and countless others for decades.

Thank you Larson Family for continuing this tradition.

In the mid 20th century there were recorded 17 separate melon stands between Forestburg and Huron, highways 34 and 37 were known as Melon Road. The sandy soil of the James River made the ground ideal for growing superb vine crops such as melons, squash and pumpkins. Today you can find three separate stands from forestburgh to Huron.

South Dakota's Fair isn't the largest, it isn't the flashiest, but it's authentic. It's the celebration of agriculture, family, and our future while having a blast!

When I travel, whether to the nearest small town or hundreds of miles away, my mission is to find the hidden gems of small shops. In today I had to take a detour to scope out ....it did not disappoint. Beautiful plants, atmosphere, presentation and people.

I love Joshua Cooper's expertise in house plants. His goal at The Deku Tree is to meet the need in the Sioux Falls area for rare, specialty house plants and the knowledge of care he can give with each purchase.

He sells more than plants too! I purchased his potting soil mix and it has made the world of difference for good drainage.

The beauty of the Northern Plains along Hwy 44 in western South Dakota. Heading back to Sioux Falls South Dakota from Rosebud Indian Reservation, I crossed this valley at golden hour. To sit in the grass and breathe this moment in was surreal. During my growing up years, my Dad put up hay and hauled it to farmers and ranchers. We traveled South Dakota and the surrounding states without a screen in front of our faces; kids forced to observe the countryside.
