Picked up an instafire ember oven to use in our off grid cabin until the kitchen gets built.

You can use it indoors with sterno-type cans or outdoors with sticks or charcoal.

First impressions:

The cooking area is SMALL. None of my pans will fit, even a bread pan.

I didn’t realize they made their own set of pans because they’re only able to be purchased off of their website and not Amazon 😩😩

Cooking with tinfoil for now… so far so good but now I’m waiting on the pans to come in to really see what she can do. I’d love to be able to bake muffins again!

Real life does not happen in perfect solar conditions.

During a major storm, cloud cover made solar unreliable for days. That experience completely changed how we plan our backup power.

Portable power stations are a great tool, but they are not a cure all. Preparedness means knowing your limits and planning around them. That is how you avoid panic when the power goes out.

Solar generators do not actually generate power.
They are battery systems that store electricity and that misunderstanding causes a lot of disappointment during outages.

If you are just getting into backup power, this is the foundation you need to understand.

Power outages are becoming more common, and I get a lot of questions about solar generators and portable power stations.

I just uploaded a new video breaking everything down for beginners. What they actually are, how they work, what they can realistically run (including CPAP machines), and what you need to think about before spending your money.

This is not about panic or fear. It is about understanding your options and setting realistic expectations, especially if preparedness is part of your plan.

If you have been confused by specs, overwhelmed by all the choices, or wondering if one of these would actually help your family during a power outage, this video will help.

In your 30s, something changes.
You stop blending in and start paying attention.
Helping families prepare isn’t crazy. It’s necessary.

Be the prepared family, not the panicked masses.

Question for my Jeep crowd.

What’s the gear you’ve bought that you’d 100% buy again?

The stuff that stays in your Jeep because it just works. Trail days, road trips, emergencies… all of it.

Let me know in the comments.

Yall didn’t think she’d be a pavement princess, did ya?

Testing your preps includes your vehicle and for us, that means back roads, river crossings, and real-world conditions.

One of the biggest excuses I hear is “prepping costs too much.”
Real preparedness starts with a plan and a budget, not fear.
Start small. Stay consistent. Build real food security over time.

12/13/2025

Building food security isn’t about buying more food. It’s about buying the right food.

Snack foods burn through your budget and leave very little behind. Sustainable pantry staples stretch your money further, last longer, and actually support your family when it matters.

If you’re prepping on a budget, this is one of the fastest ways to build real food security without spending more.

Prepared families plan ahead.
