On Sunday, we will hear if Seattle gets a team this year, in the 3rd iteration of the XFL.

Signs point to yes, however no word if Lumen Field will be the home turf again.

From Scott Anthony

07/23/2022

The 2023 XFL season should pick up where 2020 left off, starting with a 3-second game between Seattle and Houston with Seattle down by 9.

04/02/2020

Sound of the Dragon hopes everyone is quarantining well! Stay healthy, stay safe and Go Dragons!

03/15/2020

We at Sound of the Dragon have still been trying to wrap our heads around the sudden end to the 2020 XFL season. Unfortunately with the lack of a season, there is little opportunity to bring you substantial content.

We are currently in discussion regarding the future of this show, but we will likely have a closing show in the next week then go on hiatus until the 2021 XFL season approaches, possibly with intermittent shows during the interim period.

We appreciate all of our fans, followers and listeners; without you we don't have much of a show. We look forward to the 2021 XFL Season to rejoin you all in the stands as we get loud and proud for our Seattle Dragons!

Go Dragons!

Today, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has announced a ban on gatherings of 250+ people, in concern for the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Unfortunately, this includes the Seattle Dragons game this Sunday, March 15 against the LA Wildcats.

There has been some confusion regarding if ticket holders will be compensated, but it now appears that they will. If you are a single game or season ticket holder, follow the link below for more information.

The game will still be played, just without fans in the stands. The game will be aired on ESPN2 at 4:00p.m.

Q: Is the game this Sunday being played?A: Based on the proclamation issued today by Washington Governor Jay Inslee, the game will take place, as scheduled, on Sunday, March 15 at 4pm PT at CenturyLink Field without fans in the venue.

Co-Host Brian's Rant:

I'll probably address this on the next episode, but let's just say I need to rant here and now for therapeutic reasons!

The XFL is looking for legitimacy as a professional sports league in this 2020-version of the league; especially since they're trying to brush off the image of an entertainment WWE league as they were in 2001. The failure at the end of the Dragons' game today is a big step backwards in that quest for legitimacy.

XFL Officials have basically stated that since everyone was off the field, it would be too difficult to get them back for another play. Now, I get that the XFL is not the NFL, but when we look at what we could call, "standards of legitimacy," I think it's fair to look at how the NFL runs things.

I point to the game between the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns last year in November, that ended in a fight. With a mere 8-seconds left, but sides wanted to just call it and go off. The NFL said in no uncertain terms, "No. Finish the game," and they were forced to take a final snap. My Co-Host Adam points out a similar scenario during the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks 2012 game during the "Fail Mary" incident when the Packers wanted to leave, but were forced to remain on the field for an extra-point try at the end of the game.

In this instance, once the error was realized, players, staff and officials should have been called back onto the field for one more play. It's not like everyone raced straight out onto the team busses and bailed out of Houston. There may have been some difficulty and confusion, but it would have been completely doable to announce to fans and players that the game is not over.

This ultimately looks like a bush league call to just let those three-seconds fall off into oblivion rather than getting out there and finishing the game.

Now, don't get my salt confused with the wrong flavor here. I'm not saying this excuses some poor play and coaching that caused the Dragons to fall behind, They shouldn't have let it come to this. Equally, the Roughnecks should have managed their clock a little better, not allowing three-seconds to remain after the kneel on 4th-down. The Dragons should have been allowed to take advantage of that poor play timing, just as the Roughnecks had taken advantage of the Dragons' poor play throughout the second half.

This doesn't only hurt the Dragons, it hurts the XFL as a league as much as a legitimate professional football product.

Rant over. Stay tuned for our upcoming podcast episode!

03/07/2020

Our performance really wasn't up to s***f there in the end, but this ruling that the game is over is absolute garbage! Teams are still in locker rooms, refs are still here, and we are calling the game with two-seconds left.

The game has been officially called, Dragons fall to the Roughnecks 23-32.

This is a potentially season crippling loss for the Dragons, and while they could have played better to hold the lead, they should be allowed to take advantage of the Roughnecks' poor clock management there at the end.

This will likely go down as a huge failure on part of the XFL.

03/07/2020

Well, not the way we wanted to go into the half after being up 14-0, but no one out there expected the Dragons to go toe-to-toe with the undefeated Houston!

Dragons need a little adjusting on defense, we will see how the Roughnecks adjust for Seattle coming out of the half with already having had to make early adjustments just to slow them down.

03/07/2020

It's gameday! Seattle Dragons with BJ Daniels taking his first XFL start, take on PJ Walker and the 4-0 Houston Roughnecks today in Houston at TDECU Stadium at 11:00a.m., Pacific Time.

You can tune in on ABC, if you're in the Seattle-Tacoma area, that's KOMO-TV Channel 4.

Though the crew at Sound of the Dragon have been under the weather, we will try to bring you a post-game podcast in the next couple days.

Go Dragons!

03/05/2020

Sound of the Dragon apologizes for the lack of content this week, the crew has been sick. We will have new content and a new pod up as soon as we can!

03/01/2020

It's not so lonely at the bottom...

Today you've got a West Division battle between the #1 and #2 West teams, the Houston Roughnecks (3-0) and the Dallas Renegades (2-1). If the season ended today, these are the two teams that would go into the playoffs for our division.

The Seattle Dragons currently sit at 1-3, along with the Los Angeles Wildcats, who also are at 1-3. There are 6-more games in the season, so while the playoffs aren't out of reach for the Dragons, that window is beginning to close.

Fortunately, the Dragons have the opportunity to do damage to the standings board as they face two West Division teams over the next two weeks. They will face the Houston Roughnecks next week, then the LA Wildcats at home on March 15th.

If the Dragons can win both of these matchups, it will put Houston *at best* at 4-1 next week, and LA at 2-4 the following week. It would propel the Dragons to 3-3 by Week 6 and leave them in contention with, most likely, the Dallas Renegades for the #2 spot. The Dragons lost to the Renegades in Week 3, but will face them again on the road in Week 8, with the opportunity to put a win in their column and a loss in the Renegades'.

If the Roughnecks beat the Renegades today, the Roughnecks will rise to 4-0 and the Renegades will drop to 2-2, which will make the pathway to bumping the Renegades out a little smoother for the Dragons. If the Renegades win, they will move to 3-1, and be tied with the then 3-1 Roughnecks. With the Roughnecks having such great showings out there, going after the #2 spot currently held by the Renegades, may be our best hope.

With BJ Daniels presumably taking the helm from here on out on offense, the Dragons have the opportunity to excel on both sides of the football, offense and defense. By having a more effective offensive game this will give the defense more time to rest on the sidelines between defensive stands. It becomes vitally important that the Dragons get the game-plan figured out and start pulling down some serious "W's," or else we're gonna have to start focusing more on the Mariners come April.

03/01/2020

Well folks, Dragons drop another one unfortunately, losing in Saint Louis to the BattleHawks, 23-16. We did get to see backup quarterback and former Seattle Seahawk BJ Daniels take over for the second half of the game as starting Quarterback Brandon Silvers was benched after a lackluster performance.

BJ Daniels put on a show, gaining yards through the air as well as on the ground, including 84-yards rushing on 7-attempts, and 100-passing yards including one touchdown through the air. Unfortunately Daniels also threw 1-interception as well.

The biggest take-away is Daniels' causing the BattleHawks defense to have to make adjustments to account for Daniels' speed and mobility. This opened up the running game a little bit and made for a more exciting second half. We presume that going into next week Daniels will have won the starting QB position.

Next week the Dragons will be in Houston vs. the Roughnecks. The game will be at 11am Pacific Time, and will be on ABC affiliates, that is KOMO-TV Channel 4 if you're in the Seattle-Tacoma area.

I'm currently riding the SoundTransit Sounder train to the Seattle Dragons game vs. the Dallas Renegades. The train is a great way to get to the stadium. Free parking at Sounder stations, tickets are a reasonable price and the train pulls right up near CenturyLink Field.
