Roxy Gordon – Crazy Horse Never Died

The beautiful, late (1945-2000) poet, artist, activist, musician—Roxy Gordon (Choctaw, Assiniboine) did it all, and Crazy Horse Never Died hits just as hard today as it did in 1988. A raw, haunting mix of storytelling, country-rock, and synth-damaged soundscapes, this long out-of-print album is finally back.

Roxy’s words cut deep, telling the stories of history, identity, and survival in a way only he could. If you’ve never heard it, now’s the time. If you have, you already know. RIP to a legend, as he passed away in February of 2000.

Give it a spin and let us know what you think 🔥

The First Annual Winter Indigenous Film Showcase by Daybreak Star Radio presents: "Poele Wai". This experimental short film by Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) director Tiare Reboux is grounded in the phrase "Ola I ka wai" (Water is Life). This film is a journey through the love and grief interwoven within the deep aloha ʻāina (love of the land) that Kānaka embody as we face the reality of desecration of Hawaiʻi due to ongoing occupation and militarization. This includes but is not limited to the ongoing Red Hill water crisis, where the U.S. Military contaminated the water of the Pearl Harbor aquifer when approximately 20,000 gallons of jet fuel leaked from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility in May 2021, poisoning the drinking water supply for the area, impacting the water supply of roughly 93,000 people.

To watch films like Poele Wai and many more films by Native artists, join us at our First Annual Winter Indigenous Film Showcase. February 16-22, 2025. Attendance is FREE and open to the public!

This week’s : Mariee Siou is in the midst of a killer tour! Seattle—Tonight is your chance (link in story)

A voice like a sacred thread, weaving poetry, grief, and ancestral memory into song. Mariee Siou’s music is medicine — deeply rooted in her Indigenous, Spanish, and Eastern European heritage, her ethereal folk sound carries the weight of history while guiding us toward healing.

From her cult-favorite album Faces in the Rocks to her deeply introspective Grief in Exile, Mariee Siou has long embraced her role as a healer-singer, filling the cultural void left by lost traditions. With delicate guitar, hypnotic melodies, and lyrics that feel like ancient echoes, she reminds us that music is ceremony.

Her journey continues across North America—tag a friend who needs to hear her live. 🎶

This week's – Keola Beamer

Hailing from five generations of Hawai‘i’s most illustrious musical families, Keola Beamer is a living legend of slack key guitar. A master musician, composer, and innovator, Keola has infused new life into traditional Hawaiian music while staying rooted in its rich heritage.

His groundbreaking classic “Honolulu City Lights” remains one of Hawai‘i’s best-selling recordings, and his influence extends beyond the stage. Keola was one of the first to bring slack key guitar into contemporary music and even authored its very first instructional book.

Joined by his wife, Moanalani Beamer, who brings the beauty of hula and traditional Hawaiian instruments to his performances, Keola continues to captivate audiences worldwide. His work is celebrated in films like The Descendants and on 17 breathtaking albums.
