What a wonderful event! We were honored to sponsor the Garden Gala Luncheon benefitting the Columbus Botanical Garden this afternoon and loved hearing the stories of guest speaker James Farmer with a SOLD OUT crowd, braving the mud in creative combos of sundresses and practical footwear. This beautiful event celebrated many of the things we love: food, flowers, fellowship…. And James Farmer who will be featured in an upcoming issue! His new book, Celebrating Home, is all about finding things to celebrate everyday, big or small. We couldn’t agree more! What are you celebrating this weekend?

Meet Justice. Just a few months ago, she was part of a herd of free-roaming Florida Cracker Horses, a population now considered “critical” with just over 1,000 estimated in the wild. She now lives on a farm in Seale, Alabama where she is training in preparation for her future as a riding pony. This transformation to tame came about through the gentle, systematic method of horse taming known as Parelli Natural Horsemanship. Co-founder Pat Parelli sought to gain the trust of a pack of Cracker Horses during a live event at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida. After some additional time with the skilled instructors, the horses were auctioned off to benefit Hooves for Vets, a program that partners veterans with rescue horses. Justice was purchased by our own publisher and offered her a chance for real future. And surprise…. Justice was pregnant! Liberty joined the farm early this summer.
One word describes August in the south – HOT. Searching for family-friendly activities to beat the heat is a constant challenge that usually finds us indoors. Dismals Canyon, a primeval forest in Alabama, offers a chance for a cool experience outdoors. You’ll find geological and biological splendor on the dark canyon floor of this National Natural Landmark. Located in Northwest Alabama, a short drive will transport you to an 85-acre enchanted land with a full suite of modern amenities including camping facilities, cabins, a country store, and seasonal guided tours. Perhaps the most spectacular is the large population of glowing larvae living deep within the canyon, lighting up like “living stars”. Plan your visit to @dismalscanyon – it’s cool there! ...#travelthesouth #familyexperiences #explorethesouth
