Meta Publishes New Overview of its Evolving Ad Automation Tools

Instagram is finally letting users download Reels posted by others so they can share them outside the app. Rival short video app TikTok has had this feature for years and gained popularity by people watching short videos with the app’s watermark outside the platform.

In June 2023, the company’s head Adam Mosseri said on his Instagram broadcast channel that U.S.-based users will be able to download Reels to their camera roll. Users can do this by tapping on the share icon and then selecting the Download option. Apps

Instagram is finally letting users download Reels posted by others so they can share them outside the app. Rival short video app TikTok has had this feature for years and gained popularity by people watching short videos with the app’s watermark outside the platform.

On Tuesday, the company’s head Adam Mosseri said on his Instagram broadcast channel that U.S.-based users will be able to download Reels to their camera roll. Users can do this by tapping on the share icon and then selecting the Download option.

Mosseri noted that Reels from only public accounts are eligible for download. Plus, public accounts can turn off the ability to download Reels.

While Mosseri didn’t specify if there will be a watermark on the downloaded Reel, the picture posted by him indicates that the downloaded video will show an Instagram logo along with the account name. TikTok uses a similar format to attach a watermark on downloaded videos. Notably, Instagram has always allowed users to download their own Reels without a watermark from drafts.

In 2021, Instagram stopped promoting content with a TikTok watermark (or any watermark) on videos. Last August, YouTube started including a logo-based watermark on downloaded Shorts — the company’s short video product — to discourage cross-platform sharing. So this move by Instagram to let users download Reels could be a tactic to attract people to watch more content on the platform. Reels has been the point of focus to drive growth and revenue for Meta in the last few quarters.

Text posts offer a simple publishing experience that makes it easier than ever to share text content. Here's how it works:

Creating a Text Post
When you access the Camera page, you'll be able to choose from three options: photo, video, and text. By selecting text, you'll be directed to the text creation page, where you can type out the content of your post.

Enhancing Your Text Posts
Upon reaching the Post page, you'll find familiar options to customize your content. These include adding Sound, tagging a location, enabling comments, and allowing Duets, among others. These features make it so your text posts are just as dynamic and interactive as any video or photo post.

“Weeks before Turkey’s authoritarian president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, eked out a narrow reelection in May, TikTok’s acting security chief, Kim Albarella, received a piece of bad news: As many as 700,000 TikTok accounts in Turkey had been compromised by a hack that allowed attackers to access users’ private information and control their accounts.

Internal emails, chat logs, documents, and other sourcing from inside and outside of TikTok reveal that the company was made aware of the vulnerability, which stemmed from its so called “greyrouting” of SMS messages through insecure channels, more than a year earlier: In April 2022, TikTok’s security chief Roland Cloutier received an email from the U.K.’s National Cyber Security Centre, a division of the nation’s top intelligence agency, GCHQ, warning that this practice could allow “SIM farms” in Russia and other countries to request and intercept one-time passwords to gain access to TikTok users’ accounts.

In layman’s terms, greyrouting means sending SMS text messages through unsecured channels in order to bypass fees established by international telecommunications agreements. Using greyroutes can save companies money and help them avoid guardrails like rate limits and anti-spam detection, but doing so can compromise messages’ security, making them vulnerable to interception.”

TikTok Announces New Music Licensing Agreement with Warner Music

“As part of the deal, Warner Music Group and TikTok will find new ways to harness TikTok’s revenue generation and promotional capabilities, as well as a wealth of insights. In addition, artists and songwriters will have access to new ways of working with TikTok’s vibrant brand partners, as well as to new fandom development and monetization features, like merchandise, ticketing, and digital goods and services, among other opportunities. Further, the deal will see the joint development of additional and alternative economic models.”

TikTok has become a major platform for music promotion, with several labels now specifically looking to angle their artists’ tracks to align with evolving TikTok trends. Some have even gone so far as to change the names of tracks in line with TikTok usage, and with the app driving billions in record sales through viral trends, it makes sense for the labels to be paying attention, and trying to work with such shifts. - sourced from

What is Threads?
What is Threads? Launched by Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp-parent Meta on July 5, Threads is a text-based public conversation app that was built by the team behind the photo-sharing app Instagram. Both iOS and Android users in over 100 countries could access the app this week.

Users can respond to, repost, and quote other people's posts on Threads, just as on Twitter. The software also allows users to share posts from Threads directly to Instagram Stories and integrates Instagram's existing UI and functionality. Additionally, accounts may be labelled as private or public.

It is currently the fastest growing Social Media platform.

According to the number badges appearing on Instagram profiles, denoting when someone joined Threads, there are now over 100 million accounts on the Threads app in less than a week.
