🗣 As many know we had to take a long hiatus from to focus on the healing and grief , the founder, experienced losing both her parents this last year. After much time away and so much thought, we realized not only the impact had on us personally but to all the people that have supported the work, the stories, and most importantly the women. Although, things are different and have made major changes, together we’ve decided as a celebration of change, life, transition, strength, triumph and gratitude to publish the first hard cover book of UNUM based on the Women in New Mexico from the pages of the magazine, a collection. This is a huge collaboration with almost 150 women featured in . We are very excited to bring this back to life and for the next stages of what’s to come. More updates on the book will coming very soon. We have already started piecing this 200 page work of art together! Thank you all again for so much love, light and support over not only the life of UNUM but over the last two tremendously hard years - much love and so much gratitude, Tricia ❤️❤️❤️

When paints portraits of women, she manifests blessings of healing for her subjects. She paints images of the women floating amid symbols and ephemera that represent the specific trauma each woman has overcome. “They tell me their stories,” Jodie says, “they open up to me. There’s a lot of pressure; there’s so much I see in these women and it’s my job to translate that power I see to canvas.”

Today was not only a huge relief but a step forward. Everyone in society should be held accountable for their actions including law enforcement whose job is serve and protect. We wouldn’t call this justice, but it is ACCOUNTABILITY. All three accounts. We will never begin to achieve true justice for until our country completely transforms public safety to save Black lives and reduce racist police violence.

It’s been long overdue. This May is the ninth release of UNUM Magazine right in line with our 4 year anniversary. This will be our first ever New Mexico Issue focusing on how isolation and perseverance during Covid pushed women to not only rethink their own path but create a new one right here in New Mexico.

From the guest editor María Manuela:
“These women, and their stories of the past year, showed me something I think we all already knew, deep down in that place where knowing starts: we remembered something in this stillness. Venice’s canals ran clear, wildlife ventured out from the shadows, we planted gardens and made bread. Now we move towards a chance for a new rhythm, one that’s really old and comes from the heart of the place knowing live.”

Sickened that we are here again, feeling even more angry, frustrated, sad, furious...so many emotions. We shared this post a year to the date with the same caption except for George Floyd. We repeat this again!! This image caught by for her project we featured almost three years ago still rings true for black folks today. We can say how sickening it is over and over but this has got to stop. We ALL have got to do something. Daunte Wright should be alive and breathing right now as well as many other black folks! Those officers failed (again) in the most basic human sense. It serves as a clear reminder of just how far we have to go. ALL white folks reading this, this is your fight. It’s our sons and our daughters that need to be brought up radically differently and actively raised to be anti-racist. We did this. Our ancestors did this. It’s our violence. It’s our job to fix it. today, yesterday, every day before that and every single day going forward. We must not wait for the media to start the conversation. WE should ALL stand up and be the conversation. In solidarity with black folks around the world today and everyday. 🙏🏿🖤🙏🏿

It’s been a year since we released an issue but so much has changed in that one year. We’ve seen resilience, we’ve seen courage, we’ve seen fight and most of all we’ve since strength. So to bring the light back in 2021 we are focusing our ninth issue on what that means. This year, we’ve changed, we’ve grown and we can’t wait to share not only our next steps, but this powerful issue. This is the first issue ever based not only of women in the US but solely on the Women of New Mexico with whom we’ve seen determination and fire during 2020. Fully curated by arts editor . 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 . .

It's a question we're all so quick to answer with a label: I'm a mother; I'm a teacher; I'm a nurse. But that's not who you are. That's what you are. To answer who you are, you have to look inside and dig deep — maybe even get uncomfortable and honest with yourself. So who am I? I am a little girl who still gets things wrong, and sometimes I need a little validation. So my best piece of advice would be to dig deep and figure out who you really are, instead of trying to be who you think you're supposed to be. Our next featured woman in our upcoming community issue is a personal chef and creative in New York City. Jenny Dorsey’s mission is to use culinary arts as a platform to evoke introspection, empathy and real emotion. She is the founder of Why Food? Podcast @wednesdayceramics Wednesdays NYC and Studio ATAO - fusing food with emerging technology to create experiences for social good.
