Dean Martin, the legendary singer and actor, was known not only for his charm and wit, but also for his kindness and generosity.

One cold winter evening in Los Angeles, Dean was out for a late-night walk. As he walked down the street, he noticed a man sitting on the sidewalk, wrapped tightly in tattered clothes, clearly struggling with the harsh weather. He had lost his job, his home, and was now living on the streets. Dean listened attentively, comforting and speaking kind words. The man felt an immediate connection with Dean, feeling that he was not just a famous figure passing by but someone who truly cared.

After a brief conversation, Dean took the man to one of his friends who owned a small apartment building in the area. After a quick phone call, Dean arranged for the man to have a room for the night. The next day, Dean personally arranged for the man to have some food, a warm bed, and a job interview through his connections.

Deanโ€™s actions were not for attention; he did not seek recognition. He wanted to see someone in need and take the time to truly help. The homeless man, whose life had seemed hopeless just the day before, now had a chance to start over, thanks to the compassion of a man who truly understood the importance of giving back.

Dean Martinโ€™s act of kindness remains a testament to his character โ€“ a quiet generosity, where fame never overshadowed his compassion for others.

โ€œ In Washington DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, a man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.
After about four minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.
About four minutes later, the violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
At six minutes, a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
At ten minutes, a three-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.
At forty-five minutes: The musician played continuously. Only six people stopped and listened for a short while. About twenty gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.
After one hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.
This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and peopleโ€™s priorities.
This experiment raised several questions:
In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?
If so, do we stop to appreciate it?
Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever madeโ€ฆ
How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?โ€

Iโ€™ve lived in the same home 29 years
As a widow the house seemed empty when my pet of 16 years passed away
I rescued โ€œmy girlsโ€ from the shelter I volunteer at they were transferred from a place that was going to put them down- no one would adopt them together
They were a year old - their whole young life in a box. Now they can feel the wind and sun : watch all the neighborhood wildlife
They are the best companions- fill my house with joy

"The dandelion is the only flower that represents the three celestial bodies of the sun, moon, and stars: The yellow flower resembles the sun, the puff ball resembles the moons, and the dispersing seeds resemble the stars.
The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes in the evening to go to sleep.
Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves, flower. It can be used for food, medicine, and dye for colouring.
Up until the 1800s, people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions and other useful โ€œweedsโ€ like chickweed, malva and chamomile.
The name dandelion is taken from the French word โ€œdent de lionโ€ meaning lionโ€™s tooth, referring to the coarsely-toothed leaves. ๐Ÿฆ
Dandelions have one of the longest flowering seasons of any plant.
Dandelion seeds are often transported away by a gust of wind and they travel like tiny parachutes. Seeds are often carried as many as five miles from their origin!
Birds, insects, and butterflies consume nectar or seeds of dandelion.
Honey from bees pollinating dandelions is quite delicious. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ› ๐Ÿœ ๐Ÿฆ‹ ๐Ÿ.
Dandelion flowers do not need to be pollinated to form seeds.
Root of dandelion can be used as a substitute for coffee.
Dandelion is used in folk medicine to treat infections and liver disorders. Tea made of dandelion act as a diuretic.
If you know dandelions, theyโ€™ll grow shorter stalks to spite you.
Dandelions are, quite possibly, the most successful plants that exist. They are masters of survival worldwide."

Wow, I had no idea about the origin story of Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer! If you aren't familiar with it either, read below:

As the holiday season of 1938 came to Chicago, Bob May wasnโ€™t feeling much comfort or joy. A 34-year-old ad writer for Montgomery Ward, May was exhausted and nearly broke. His wife, Evelyn, was bedridden, on the losing end of a two-year battle with cancer. This left Bob to look after their four-year old-daughter, Barbara.

One night, Barbara asked her father, โ€œWhy isnโ€™t my mommy like everybody elseโ€™s mommy?โ€ As he struggled to answer his daughterโ€™s question, Bob remembered the pain of his own childhood. A small, sickly boy, he was constantly picked on and called names. But he wanted to give his daughter hope, and show her that being different was nothing to be ashamed of. More than that, he wanted her to know that he loved her and would always take care of her. So he began to spin a tale about a reindeer with a bright red nose who found a special place on Santaโ€™s team. Barbara loved the story so much that she made her father tell it every night before bedtime. As he did, it grew more elaborate. Because he couldnโ€™t afford to buy his daughter a gift for Christmas, Bob decided to turn the story into a homemade picture book.

In early December, Bobโ€™s wife died. Though he was heartbroken, he kept working on the book for his daughter. A few days before Christmas, he reluctantly attended a company party at Montgomery Ward. His co-workers encouraged him to share the story heโ€™d written. After he read it, there was a standing ovation. Everyone wanted copies of their own. Montgomery Ward bought the rights to the book from their debt-ridden employee. Over the next six years, at Christmas, they gave away six million copies of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to shoppers. Every major publishing house in the country was making offers to obtain the book. In an incredible display of good will, the head of the department store returned all rights to Bob May. Four years later, Rudolph had made him into a millionaire.

Now remarried with a growing family, May felt blessed by his good fortune. But there was more to come. His brother-in-law, a successful songwriter named Johnny Marks, set the uplifting story to music. The song was pitched to artists from Bing Crosby on down. They all passed. Finally, Marks approached Gene Autry. The cowboy star had scored a holiday hit with โ€œHere Comes Santa Clausโ€ a few years before. Like the others, Autry wasnโ€™t impressed with the song about the misfit reindeer. Marks begged him to give it a second listen. Autry played it for his wife, Ina. She was so touched by the line โ€œThey wouldnโ€™t let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer gamesโ€ that she insisted her husband record the tune.

Within a few years, it had become the second best-selling Christmas song ever, right behind โ€œWhite Christmas.โ€ Since then, Rudolph has come to life in TV specials, cartoons, movies, toys, games, coloring books, greeting cards and even a Ringling Bros. circus act. The little red-nosed reindeer dreamed up by Bob May and immortalized in song by Johnny Marks has come to symbolize Christmas as much as Santa Claus, evergreen trees and presents. As the last line of the song says, โ€œHeโ€™ll go down in history.โ€

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one-ton truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss. Afterward, he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier. โ€˜Oh, that's my trouble tree,' he replied 'I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning, I pick them up again.' 'Funny thing is,' he smiled,' when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before. THIS ONE IS WORTH SENDING ON. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. We all need a Tree!

My heart was warmed at Wal-Mart during lunch.
The man had his belongings scanned, and he received the final amount. Apologetically, he glances back at me and begins extracting handfuls of coins from his pockets. He miscounts and starts to get flustered. Gives me a muttered, "I'm so sorry." His hands and voice are shaking. This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, "This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together." He continues to apologize to both of us as we reassure him it's ok. They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away.
I looked at this wonderful woman and said, "Thank-you for being so patient with him."
She shakes her head and replies, "You shouldn't have to thank me, baby. What's wrong with our world is we've forgotten how to love one another."
I want to be more like her.

I had 7 boys, all in 6th grade, come in while I was working. They wanted to order wings and asked if they had enough money to pay for 40 wings and sodas. I looked around, confused, wondering where their parents were.
I asked if they were alone, and they said yes. They told me they'd been looking forward to this for weeks! They were so excited and were incredibly polite the whole time, saying please and thank you and making it as easy as possible for me to take their order. They even told me theyโ€™d tip well ๐Ÿ˜‚.
It was touching to see how well-behaved they were, even without any parents around to remind them. One of the boys even asked his friend to get off his phone while I was talking to them!
They were so good that a customer sitting nearby picked up their bill and told them to pay it forward. I just wanted to give big credit to the parents of these boysโ€”keep up the great work!!
Here's how they left the table! Even adults (myself included) donโ€™t always leave the table this clean!

Boone, NC officials announced that 62 members of the Pennsylvania Amish community built 12 tiny homes in less than 48 hours. The project, costing over $300,000, was entirely funded by the Amish themselves.
Now thatโ€™s an inspiring story to carry us into 2025!

This elderly man, who has not driven a car in years, drove himself to the store to get his wife of over 79 years a Valentine's gift, a small box of chocolates. A customer at the store was concerned about his driving and called police to check on him and make sure he got home safely. Deputy Gulley responded to the call at the store, learned the details, and decided to reward the couple with a special valentine for their 79-year marriage! He and several customers created a gift basket for the elderly couple. Officer Gulley then went to the man's house and not only made sure he got home safe, but personally delivered the items to the elderly man and his wife! What a guy!! Thumbs UP to Deputy Gulley for his big heart and going above and beyond!

01/22/2025

"I've seen this guy at Starbucks in Marin City several times. Every time Iโ€™d see him I'd tell myself that I would take him to lunch but always found an excuse not to. Today was different. It might have been selfish but I was lonely. I didn't want to spend the whole day alone. I walked up to him, put my hand on his shoulder and said 'do you want to have lunch with me?'
Tarec Atkinson was born and raised in Jamaica. When he was a kid, he dreamt of being a famous football (soccer) player. He was recruited to play in school but never got the opportunity because of some trouble he got in as a teenager. He moved to the states 8 years ago and has spent the last 12 months living in a tent by the side of the freeway. Tarec goes days without eating, sometimes living off of the berries he picks, he spends 90% of his time alone and has no friends and no family in the states. After hearing it had been a month since he bathed, I brought him back to my apartment so he could enjoy a hot shower. Because of all these hardships, trying to get a job is impossible. How can you fill out an application when you haven't eaten in days? I told Tarec that I would drive around with him next week and help him fill out applications and even speak on his behalf to help him land a job so he can get back on his feet. We agreed to meet that Friday at 9:30 AM at Starbucks.
If we were going to make this happen, I knew we had to get Tarec some new clothes. We stopped at Ross so he could pick out a shirt and some slacks. I was blown away at the immediate change in his demeanor. His smile was radiant, he stood up straighter, and even walked with a swagger. I couldnโ€™t convince him to tuck in his shirt. I guess you win some and you lose some haha. Next step was to hit the streets. We spent the next two days going door to door to see who was hiring. We went to Walgreens, CVS, Safeway, Home Depot, Molly Stones, and Starbucks just to name a few. I would walk in with him so he knew he wasnโ€™t alone. It can be overwhelming to walk into a business and ask for a job. I was very proud of him. We had a few positive responses but the majority of businessโ€™s told us that applications were submitted online. Easy enough right? Wrong.
Tarec doesnโ€™t have a computer. So we went to the local library and began filling out applications. And let me tell you something. We take our computer literacy for granted. Watching him struggle to fill out an application put so much into perspective for me. Some people judge our homeless. Weโ€™ve all heard someone say 'why donโ€™t they just get a job?' or 'theyโ€™re lazy' I saw firsthand how the โ€œsystemโ€ is set up to fail people like Tarec. There is no way he would have been able to do any of this without my help. Just like there are many things in my life I have needed someone to help me overcome an obstacle. We all need a little help.
After week of phone interviews Tarec landed an in person interview at Safeway. I remember driving to Safeway being nervous. I looked over to him and asked how he was feeling. He looked back at me and said โ€œI got thisโ€. I believed him. I dropped him off, wished him luck and waited. 20 minutes later, I see him walk out of Safeway with a big smile and a thumbs up. I let out a Rick Flair sounding โ€œWOO!โ€. We had accomplished a lot together in two weeks. It was an incredible moment. Obviously we had to celebrate with a little ice cream! ๐Ÿ™‚
Like we all are, Tarec is searching for a purpose in life. He yearns for happiness. He craves for a woman to love and to feel the love from a woman. He wants to create a better life for himself so he could one day have a family and stability. He is just like you and me. My hope in sharing this story is that it will inspire others to spread LOVE. We all need help in one way or another. Sometimes all someone needs is a friend. Thank you for taking the time to read my story."
