Bedtime Chapel offers you ways to cultivate the roots of a healthy faith in your children. Comment ROOT and we’ll send you a link to the full episode. In this conversation Canon Sierra, Natalie and James dig into a conversation about Mark 3 & 4. @revsierra presents a powerful framework for thinking about the parables Jesus tells in his ministry as ways to get to know him, and ourselves, better by remaining curious. This leads us to talk about our responsible as caregivers and parents to “till the soil” of our children’s hearts without trying to control who they become. It’s helpful for any parent or caregiver who is wondering how to best develop a love for God in your home. J. The Holy Innocents
Parents and caregivers may be tempted to avoid conversations about violence - as if silence might spare our kids encounters with pain.
The Holy Innocents text we read tonight reminds us that the violence of empire is everywhere. While it may be uncomfortable to have conversations about suffering with our kids - it’s a state of the world that some parents don’t have the luxury of avoiding.
We can prepare kids to be present to pain and suffering by creating rhythms of grief and lament in our prayers. At our house we start by asking the kids, “Who can we pray for that’s hurting, knowing that God loves them dearly?”
If this is helpful to you, like the post and share the reel with your community. Add the people and places that you’re holding in prayer in the comments — we will pray with you tonight.
Thank you to our guest the Rev @aaronl_ross for his powerful observations about empire. Deacon Aaron serves at @stjohnsduxbury and graduated from @virginiaseminary. The articles we share in the reel come from @guardian @euronews.tv @washingtonpost and @npr. The prayer is from @theepiscopalchurch

Intro to Advent Bible Study
Bedtime Chapel releases a weekly Bible Study that follows along with the readings for night prayer. If you haven’t yet, check out the episode we released on 11/30 for the week of Advent 1 with Gary Commins
Gary, retired Episcopal priest, and Natalie met in 2014 through a mutual friend, Ranjit Koshy Mathews. They bonded over a shared hope for what the church could be if we got out of our own way and loved a little more boldly. Gary served in urban, suburban, bilingual, multicultural, and historically Black congregations, often transitioning aging parishes into younger, more diverse ones while working to create new community ministries.
We asked Gary to join us as our first guest and speaker because we have a huge respect for Gary’s faith, integrity, authenticity, and his wit. Even more than that, we have learned through our friendship that as much as he loves all of his roles, his role as a father is at the very top of the list. And in a podcast that’s looking to form kids in the home in their faith, we thought Gary would be a great guest.

New Episode: Second Trailer Out!
In the busyness of life, why make time for family prayer? How might night prayer impact your family? And how might it impact the wider church?
In this special episode of Bedtime Chapel, James and Natalie share the hopes they have for the way Bedtime Chapel will support their home, your home, and the church community.
Audio from Post: "the way that I see it is that the future of our church relies on our ability to really decenter the people of privilege who are currently at the center of the church and to become more open to the people. Jesus was open to the voices and needs of people who are on the margin. And that can include and begin with truly centering and honoring children." Deacon Natalie"
Advent Readings!
James and I spent time together praying and recording the first few weeks of Bedtime Chapel today! We hope you’ll join us starting Dec 1st for nightly prayer.
