His cross-genre music features epic progressions, lush sound design, driving rhythms, and innovative melodic lines. Driving rhythms, cinematic melodies, and a vast palette of sonic textures define the music of SUBQUiRE, the latest evolution of Wayne Baker’s lifelong journey with sound. Having played piano since the age of seven, Baker now draws on three decades of musical experience to create musi

c that bridges emotion, experimentation, and thoughtful sound design. Spanning genres like ambient, IDM, glitch-hop, drum & bass, shoegaze, and experimental bass music, SUBQUiRE reflects Baker’s broad influences and passion for exploring sound. “Genres have always been tough for me—I’m influenced by so many types of music,” Baker explains. This openness drives his ability to craft music that resonates deeply with listeners. Wayne Baker’s artistry was first introduced to the world under the name Fidelium. As Fidelium, he gained recognition for his intricate compositions and innovative sound design. Early works like Believe Me This Is Home showcased a melodic IDM style influenced by artists like Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin. Fidelium’s sound expanded with God Tank, featured on the IDMf Netlabel’s Beyond The Silence And Story, and reached new heights with the critically acclaimed Diametry LP, a gapless sonic adventure that highlighted Baker’s skills in sound design and composition. In 2013, Baker revisited his earlier work for I’ll Be Famous When I’m Dead, reimagining tracks from 2003–2007 and releasing them alongside remix stems for collaboration. These releases established Fidelium as an artist willing to experiment and evolve, setting the stage for what would later become SUBQUiRE. As SUBQUiRE, Wayne Baker continues to push his creative boundaries. Recent works like Mute, the introspective World Theories, and the evocative dear city, showcase his ability to blend cinematic storytelling with intricate soundscapes. His upcoming drum & bass track, Webs & Flowers, promises to further explore rhythm and emotion, delivering a dynamic listening experience. Beyond his solo work, Baker is one-half of NOTICE, an EDM/trip-hop duo he co-founded with Quinn Zimmer in New Orleans. NOTICE combines soulful vocals, deep beats, synths, and guitars to create a unique and immersive sound. Wayne Baker’s impact on the electronic music community extends beyond his own releases. As co-founder of the IDMf Netlabel, now Glitch Pulse Records, he helped curate and release over 30 albums, fostering a global community of electronic music producers. His leadership in this role emphasized collaboration and experimentation, values he carries into his current work with Glitch Pulse Records. “I’ve been lucky to work with so many talented people and to learn from every step of the process,” Baker says. For Baker, music isn’t just a career—it’s a way of life. “I’m always in composition mode,” he says. Whether sketching ideas at the piano, experimenting in his studio, or collaborating with other artists, he finds joy in the endless possibilities of sound. SUBQUiRE and NOTICE are more than projects—they’re expressions of a lifelong passion for music’s ability to connect people, spark emotion, and inspire creativity. From his roots as Fidelium to his latest releases as SUBQUiRE, Wayne Baker’s work remains a testament to his dedication to sound and storytelling. Whether crafting ambient soundscapes, bass-heavy grooves, or introspective melodies, he invites listeners to join him on a journey that is as much about connection as it is about music.

fidelium - "Fear Not" (2016)

Well, I finally decided to put it out, as a single. There are more tracks from this project (titled “Everything Is Falling Apart”), and I’ll eventually meld them all together into one. When it feels right, ya know/ Let’s call it an “album in progress”.

It’s nice to put out something under the Fidelium moniker again. Makes me all nostalgic. This whole series was written during one of the difficult periods in my life, around 2017. Was amidst a really sh*tty breakup, and was still living with them in a tiny apartment in the Tenderloin, San Francisco. My buddy Teddy came over and I recorded him playing some licks on his nylon string guitar. This simple major chord arpeggio he played so tenderly was stuck in my head for days after, and I felt inspired to transform it into what you hear now: “Fear Not”.

The message is straightforward, to not be afraid when the life has got you down, when you can barely get out of bed everyday and you’re losing hope. I think I wrote this to give myself something something uplifting to work on, and now I give it away to the world. May it uplift you.

Don’t give up hope.

https://www.glitchpulser.com/news/idmf071-va-idmf-retrospective-vol-5 Feat: Subquire Releases Dec 22nd AEST!

Over the course of this series, we’ve traced the milestones of the IDMf Netlabel’s history. Each release has showcased treasures from our discography, while spotlighting the sounds and stories that shaped our label. Through it all, our veteran artists have reaffirmed their presence, showing that the IDMf community remains as vibrant and driven as ever.

To close this chapter, it’s only fitting to feature one of the label’s original architects. Wayne Baker, co-founder of the Netlabel and mastering engineer for several of its releases, steps into the spotlight with his latest work as SUBQUiRE. His track "Mute" brings the series full circle, weaving in a powerful Julie Andrews sample that parallels the challenges he’s faced with his own voice.

As we turn the final page, IDMf Retrospective Vol. 5 stands as both a celebration and a testament to the enduring legacy of the Netlabel, and forges a path for the exciting output that Glitchpulse Records has in store.
